Logitech QuickCam for Notebooks Deluxe

*Est. $40

pros
  • Reviews of older versions of the Logitech QuickCam for Notebooks Deluxe have complimented video quality (with sufficient lighting). Except for flesh tones, color is good. It has a built-in microphone with good sound quality, along with manual focus control.
cons
  • Reviewers say low-light performance is the Achilles heel of the Logitech QuickCam for Notebooks Deluxe. It has no auto-focus, and some say the USB cable is short.

Works off the box on Ubuntu Linux!, October 14, 2009

Works very well on KUbuntu 8.04 with the UVC driver is installed. No extra steps had to be performed to install this driver. Testing to see if the camera works can be done with the luvcview utility that is available in the Ubuntu repository. The camera has a black ring around the lens which can be used to adjust focus (can be a little tight initially). Works readily with Skype 2.0 and above - select the Options menu and click on Video Devices -> Test button and you should see the video from your camera in the small black box. The in-built microphone also works seamlessly. I have had to adjust the input device sometimes (/dev/dsp, /dev/dsp1) to get the audio to work but that happens even with a separate, normal mic. Doesn't require any external power. The clip helps fasten the camera to the laptop screen perimeter and a reasonably long USB cable connects to the computer. Very travel friendly.

Works GREAT as long as you don't load the software!, October 6, 2009

I bought this webcam a few weeks ago, and installed the software onto my almost-new, fairly powerful laptop, which (true to many of the reviews) slowed it down to the point of SLUG SPEED. So I uninstalled it and planned to return it, until one of my friends told me that he thought the camera would work just fine by itself without the software...that my computer would recognize that it was there...without installing the software. Guess what? HE WAS RIGHT! Do NOT install the software and you will LOVE this webcam!

Travel Video WebCam, September 29, 2009
Needed webcam for my laptop (which travels with us) to maximize our 'Skype' service. So now we not only share video with our friends BUT even more important we also have the use of video to share our calls with our grandchildren. This webcam is perfect for our needs.
On-the-Go Webcam for Laptop, September 28, 2009

We bought the Logitech QuickCam Deluxe to use on our laptop to keep in touch with family while we were traveling on vacation. We already have the 9000 for our PC and really like the 9000. The QuickCam's picture isn't quite as good, but good enough that young grandchildren recognized where we were by the building in the background. The QuickCam was easy to install and fits in the pocket of our laptop's carrier.

Logitech QuickCam, September 27, 2009
An absolutely perfect adjunct to my Dell Mini9. Everything works perfectly. It is the fourth logitech device that I have in my inventory. None has disappointed me in the slightest. I would recommend without hesitation and would certainly purchase again.

This review is for an older but similar version of the Logitech QuickCam Notebook Deluxe. While the review is good, we'd like to know why Harell prefers the Logitech QuickCam for Notebooks Pro.

At the time of our visit, no one had yet posted user reviews for the latest version of the Logitech QuickCam for Notebooks Deluxe, but this is the spot to check in the future. Earlier versions appear to be technologically similar, but this model now has a different clip for laptop screens, so we hope to see this feature reviewed in the future.
