Reviewers agree that Etymotic's ety8 earphones have terrific sound, far surpassing other wireless models. The audiophile-friendly earphones also do a great job of blocking out background noise because of the way they fit inside your ear canals, though this style may not be to everyone's taste. And for many reviewers, the design is the biggest worry. To make room for the batteries, each earbud has a square-shaped case sticking out, a very odd-looking design choice that some feel isn't worth the trade-off. A Bluetooth transmitter for the Apple iPod is included (older iPods aren't compatible with stereo Bluetooth). If you already have a Bluetooth enabled device, the ety8 headphones are also sold separately (*Est. $160) without the transmitter.
CNET and PCMag.com provide useful and detailed reviews of the Etymotic ety8 earphones, and InfoSyncWorld.com also offers thorough coverage. Not too many Amazon.com users comment on this model, but their kudos and concerns echo those of the professional review sites.

David Carnoy takes a look at the Etymotic ety8 earphones, giving them a good overall rating. Sound quality and noise-blocking are both praised, though Carnoy finds the earphones' style problematic -- they look "a bit ridiculous," like "giant square earrings."

Jamie Lendino regularly reviews headsets and earphones for PCMag.com. He praises the lightness, battery life, and sound on the Etymotic ety8 earphones, though Lendino hears some "anomalies" in the bass. The "truly strange styling," is the biggest sticking point, which detracts from an otherwise commendable set of wireless earphones.

Jennifer Hooker's review of the Etymotic ety8 earphones is a bit shorter than some reviews at InfoSyncWorld.com, but it still touches all the bases. Hooker doesn't seem bothered by the design (as some reviewers are), though she finds the controls hard to press, and would like to have seen hands-free voice calling as an option. However, the earphones are described as "lightweight" and "comfortable," while the sound quality is "stellar."
