The Panasonic Close Curves ES2216PC electric shaver's wet/dry capability means you can take it into the shower or submerge it completely for cleaning. Its nick-free shave draws some dedicated fans. Most, however, say the battery dies quickly -- and that this shaver tends to leave stubble and miss hairs, even after multiple passes.
Trading comfort for performance. Users say the ES2216PC's four independent blades and pivoting head mount excel at shaving underarm areas without pinching, but it misses hair and leaves stubble behind. "You have to go over each area many times to get all of the hairs and even when you do, the result is a stubbly, rough shave," writes one woman at Drugstore.com.
"The blades are extremely dull and pull the hairs - once the battery starts dying, it goes from being uncomfortable to downright painful," writes another Drugstore.com user. Adding insult to injury, an Amazon.com poster also warns that this shaver will periodically dump hair trimmings all over you.
The battery is problematic. The Panasonic ES2216PC is completely submersible, which makes clean-up a cinch. Unfortunately, it doesn't have much else going for it in terms of usability. More than a few users find the tiny, block-like charging adapter odd; you have to perch the shaver on top of it to charge, which means you can't use it while plugged in.
The manufacturer predicts just over 20 minutes of total shave time per 12-hour charge, and we found a number of complaints that the rechargeable battery doesn't hold a charge properly.
Expect to pay an ownership cost of about $3 per month -- $36 per year -- if you replace the ES2216PC's foil and blades twice a year. (Each foil/blade set retails for about $18.)
More than 670 reviewers at Amazon.com give the Panasonic Close Curves ES2216PC a 3.7 out of 5 star rating. Although it can't shave as closely as a razor can, users say that it gets very close compared to other electric shavers. A few say that the casing and head of the shaver can scratch your legs if you press too hard.
