Gravity is a non-discriminatory force and it eventually catches up to everyone -- be it man or woman -- in the form of fine lines, wrinkles and sagging skin.
Still, there is a much larger market for women's anti-aging products than there is for men's. Fortunately, there really is no difference in the skin care needs of men and women and, aside from a feminine scent in some products, there is no reason that men can't use "girly" potions, too.
Paula Begoun says, "What generally differentiates men's products from women's is packaging" and "in terms of what either gender needs to create and maintain healthy, protected skin, there is no fundamental difference."
Olay Regenerist Daily Regenerating Serum, Fragrance Free (*Est. $20 for 1.7 oz.) and Neutrogena Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle Cream -- Night (*Est. $13 for 1.4 oz.), our two Best Reviewed wrinkle creams, are perfectly suitable options for both men and women. Furthermore, both products are free of any fragrance -- making them truly gender-neutral.
Of course, that doesn't mean that there aren't viable options in the men's skin care department. There aren't, however, a lot of reviews available for men's formulas -- which makes them hard to evaluate.
Lab Series Skincare for Men Max LS Overnight Renewal Serum (*Est. $60) earns Paula Begoun's highest rating because it's loaded with lots of antioxidants and other good-for-skin ingredients that make for smoother and softer skin. She says it has a lightweight, non-greasy texture but is overpriced -- there are plenty of equally good formulas available for a fraction of the cost. Allure magazine favors this product because the lightweight serum fights wrinkles while you sleep.
It's important to note that the same rules apply for men's skin care as for women's -- it's the ingredients that count. Experts say to look for antioxidant-rich formulas with other good-for-skin ingredients like niacinamide, peptides, retinol and alpha hydroxy acids.
