Experts say that antioxidants are among the few ingredients proven to protect against environmental factors that lead to fine lines, wrinkles and age spots. Elizabeth Arden's Prevage Face Advanced Anti-Aging Serum is praised for containing idebenone, which is supposedly one of the more powerful antioxidants available. Still, some experts say that a cocktail of several antioxidants, like what is found in Olay Regenerist Regenerating Serum, Fragrance Free (*Est. $20 for 1.7 oz.), is likely to do a better job. Prevage contains fewer antioxidants, but still contains several beneficial ingredients -- namely glycerin, silicone, green tea and algae extract. Reviewers say that it is lightweight and feels luxurious on the skin. Several users say that it leaves their skin soft and luminous and noticeably reduces the appearance of fine lines. Experts point out, however, that all well-formulated moisturizers will temporarily plump the skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines in the process. A couple of users at MakeupAlley.com agree, saying that any anti-aging benefits from Prevage are temporary and go away when regular usage is discontinued. Some also complain of irritation to their sensitive skin -- likely caused by the fragrance in the formula.
For expert opinion, we turned to skin care expert Paula Begoun and her online database of reviews, Beautypedia.com. Here Begoun relies on clinical research to rate thousands of beauty products based on the efficacy of their ingredients. Editors at InStyle and Health magazines also test hundreds of products for their annual beauty awards. We found user reviews at TotalBeauty.com and MakeupAlley.com to be useful in evaluating real-world usage and comfort.

Paula Begoun gives Prevage Anti-Aging Serum a high overall rating even though she dismisses many of the manufacturer's claims as bogus and over-reaching. She says that a cocktail of antioxidants is the best option, rather than one standout ingredient (idebenone in this case). The formula does, however, contain many beneficial ingredients for the skin including glycerin, green tea, sodium hyaluronate and algae extract.

Although many users complain about the expensive price tag, several say that it reduces the appearance of fine lines and evens out their complexion.
