TomTom GO 920T review highlights

Consumer Reports tests the TomTom GO 920T's navigation and usability, ranking it against 41 other GPS units based on those fundamental features. Reviews at GPSLodge.com and YourNAV.com offer a much more thorough look at the GO 920T's special features. PocketGPSWorld.com's review is extremely detailed, but it doesn't compare the GO 920T with its competitors. About.com's review is mostly a list of the model's features.

Some experts (especially those in the U.K., where TomTom is the leading GPS brand) love the way the TomTom GO 920T navigates. But U.S. testers find that competitors such as the Magellan Maestro 4250 (*est. $305) and particularly the Garmin nüvi 760 (*est. $425) generate more efficient routes. Reviewers do like the ease of using the GO 920T's Bluetooth remote control along with voice commands. However, testers find the unit can't be completely commanded by voice, as the newer and pricier Garmin nüvi 880 (*est. $1,000) can. Dead reckoning - the GO 920T's ability to estimate its location when it loses its signal, such as in a tunnel - works well, testers say. That's a new feature that the highly rated TomTom GO 720 (*est. $340) doesn't have, and reviewers say it's enough to justify the extra price. User reviews for the TomTom GO 920T aren't glowing, but they are mostly positive, with no complaints that recur in review after review.
