2007 Suzuki Reno review highlights

Most reviews for the 2007 Suzuki Reno rate it as average among subcompact cars. But for the 2007 model year, 'average' isn't where you want to be when there are so many new subcompacts getting excellent reviews -- including the Honda Fit (*est. $13,850 to $15,170) and the Toyota Yaris (*est. $11,050 to $14,150). Reviews say the Reno's control layout is good, and cargo space is also above average. Reviews are mixed on road noise. Some reviews say it's very loud, while others say the Suzuki Reno is reasonably quiet on smooth roads. But if you want a hatchback, reviews say the similarly priced Honda Fit is worth first consideration, and the Fit gets much better gas mileage than the Suzuki Reno.

There are few good review sources out there for the 2007 Suzuki Reno. Although Consumer Reports usually reviews every car for the current model year, it doesn't include the Suzuki Reno on its list of current models. We did find reviews at Cars.com and Consumer Guide.com, both of which test the '07 Suzuki Reno. An evaluation at CarCritic.com is definitive, but not very detailed.

*In order of credibility (see our Ratings Criteria).

1. Consumer Guide.com
2007 Suzuki Reno review
Editors of ConsumerGuide.com

Consumer Guide bases its scores on road tests and critical evaluations. Cars get numerical scores in each of about twelve areas, and those scores are compared to the class average. Overall, the Suzuki Aerio scores just below average in most aspects. The biggest problem is engine noise, which editors say "roars intrusively during acceleration," and "turns buzzy at higher speeds."

2. Cars.com
2007 Suzuki Reno
Editors of Cars.com
Aug. 2006

Cars.com road tests new cars, including the 2007 Suzuki Reno. But editors don't rate or rank cars, so it's hard to tell where editors think the Suzuki Reno stands in relation to its peers. The general review of the Reno is good, with compliments on performance and front-seat space. The downside, according to the review, is that the brakes feel soft, the gearshift is "rubbery,” and the rear seating is tight. Interestingly, editors here say that this car is generally quiet, while Consumer Guide criticizes it for being noisy.

3. CarCritic.com
2007 Suzuki Reno review

Overall, CarCritic.com says you should skip the 2007 Suzuki Reno: "Everything it is and does is disappointing." CarCritic is an interesting review source. Editors offer a bottom-line assessment rather than a long and detailed narrative review. They also do not compare the 2007 Suzuki Reno to other compact cars. Reading this review online will cost you $1.
