For the past 57 years, Motor Trend has looked at the vehicles on the market and selected a car of the year. Ratings are based on three categories: significance, superiority and value. The Car of the Year for 2008, the Cadillac CTS, is pricey for a family sedan, but both the Chevy Malibu and the Honda Accord are among the eight finalists. Editors praise the newly redesigned Malibu for its clean lines and competitive acceleration, and note that this year's Malibu represents "a genuine alternative to the Camry." The 2008 Accord wins accolades for performance, comfort and value, but editors feel that the newer Accord has bulked up a bit more than is necessary.
