Garmin nuvi 760 review highlights

The Garmin nüvi 760 is one of the most thoroughly tested and reviewed GPS units on the market. GPSMagazine.com and Consumer Reports compare the nüvi 760 against competitors in head-to-head tests. Although tests at PC Magazine, GPSLodge.com and About.com are not head-to-head, the reviewers do draw comparisons with rival units from other brands, as well as other nüvis. Although the nüvi 760 doesn't appear to have been tested in-depth at GPS Tracklog, it is the top high-end pick on the buyer's guide at that reliable site.

Experts recommend the Garmin nüvi 760 more than any other high-end GPS. It lands at the top of performance tests, including routing tests against Magellan and TomTom units. The nüvi 760 includes almost every extra feature Garmin has to offer, but testers say the nüvi 760 is still easy enough for a novice to use. User reviews are overwhelmingly positive, and experts find only the typical nüvi 700-series complaints: users can't tell the nüvi 760 to avoid a specific road when it plans a route, the speaker can sound tinny or too quiet and the FM transmitter that allows audio to be routed through the car stereo is weak, forcing frequent hunts for an empty FM station. The less expensive Garmin nüvi 750 (*est. $375) is identical to the nüvi 760, except the nüvi 750 lacks Bluetooth and a traffic receiver. The nüvi 760's main improvement over the even less expensive nüvi 660 (*est. $345) is multi-point routing - the ability to calculate a route that encompasses multiple destinations - and reviews say if you can do without that feature, the nüvi 660 is a better deal.
