2007 Dodge Caravan Review

(*est. $19,055 to $22,995)

This page is part of a larger ConsumerSearch report on Minivans which includes more reviews, analysis and a summary of the top-rated models.

What the reviewers like:
When it was released, critics said the Dodge Caravan offers good looks, decent ride and handling, good visibility and a durable interior, and recognized this model as among the most affordable of minivans. The Caravan's Stow ‘n Go seats -- which fold flat into the floor -- were a highlight for many.

What the reviewers don't like:
Most sources agreed that the Dodge Caravan just isn't as attractive as the class-leading Honda Odyssey, and the competing Kia Sedona got better reviews as a budget minivan. The lack of a stability control system or full-length side-curtain airbags on base models meant that crash-test scores for ’07 Caravans are unimpressive. Long-term reliability appears to be below average.

2007 Dodge Caravan review highlights

The 2007 Dodge Caravan's handling, acceleration and braking, according to reviews, all lag behind the same year’s minivans from Honda, Toyota, Kia and Hyundai. In this price class, we found better reviews for the Kia Sedona (price when new: $20,495 to $26,195). The Dodge Caravan's long-term reliability is about average, but most reviewers said the ’07 Caravan is outdated compared to class-leading minivans from the same year. 2007 was the last model year for the Grand Caravan, although the high-end Grand Caravan saw a 2008 redesign.

The most credible review of the 2007 Dodge Caravan was published by Edmunds.com, where editors did a nice job comparing it to the competition. Consumer Reports last tested the Dodge Caravan for the 2005 model year, but since the minivan wasn't substantially revised for 2007, the ratings are still relevant. Consumer Reports also includes repair data from prior model years in its report. CarCritic.com's Don Vorderman included a short evaluation of the ‘07 Dodge Caravan.

1. Edmunds.com
2007 Dodge Caravan Review
Editors of Edmunds.com

Edmunds.com didn't test the Dodge Caravan head-to-head against other minivans, but its editors made some casual comparisons. Editors did an excellent job placing the 2007 Dodge Caravan minivan in context of the competing ’07 models from Honda, Toyota, Kia and Hyundai. This is easily the best review we found for this model.

Editors of Consumer Reports

Consumer Reports tested the Dodge Caravan for the 2005 model year, but since this minivan wasn't substantially updated, the testing here still has validity for 2006 and 2007 models. Also included are scores for predicted long-term reliability, based on reader surveys.

3. Automotive.com
2006 Dodge Caravan Review
Mitch McCullough

Automotive.com last reviewed the Dodge Caravan for the 2006 model year, focusing more on features than performance and comparing the Dodge Caravan to the competition in only a casual way. Reviews here often tend to be less critical than reviews at other sites, and this one was no exception.

4. CarCritic.com

2007 Dodge Caravan Review
Don Vorderman

Rather than going into detail about performance and features, CarCritic.com's Don Vorderman focuses mainly on owner surveys and some hands-on testing. The 2007 Dodge Caravan was said to be a dated minivan, but not a bad choice for those on a budget.

5. Consumer Guide.com
2005-2007 Dodge Caravan Review
Editors of ConsumerGuide.com

ConsumerGuide.com's reviews are not especially easy to read. Editors break up reviews into a bunch of sections, with mainly numerical ratings. Editors do make picks based on testing and analysis, however, and ConsumerGuide.com maintains an excellent database on standard features, options and pricing. Also included is a page for used cars, including recall and trouble-spot history, which is especially helpful.

6. Car and Driver

Editors of Car and Driver

This miniscule review of the 2007 Dodge Caravan isn't very insightful; Car and Driver magazine has a far more detailed review on the Dodge Grand Caravan from the 2005 model year which could be equally useful to shoppers interested in a 2007 Grand Caravan.
