2007 Dodge Grand Caravan Review

(*est. $20,890 to $27,775)

This page is part of a larger ConsumerSearch report on Minivans which includes more reviews, analysis and a summary of the top-rated models.

What the reviewers like:
Reviewers said the 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan is affordable, and its fold-flat Stow 'n Go seats are a big plus -- testers stated that they’re easy to operate, increasing cargo flexibility substantially. Experts said the Grand Caravan rides well enough, and handles well.

What the reviewers don't like:
For the 2007 model year, the Dodge Grand Caravan fell behind the competition, especially same-year Korean minivans. Although a 2008 revision has brought improvements in standard safety features, the 2007 Grand Caravan’s scores in government crash testing were unimpressive, especially when tested models did not include optional side airbags.

2007 Dodge Grand Caravan review highlights

The biggest competition for the 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan came from two Korean minivans, the Kia Sedona (price when new: $20,495 to $26,195) and Hyundai Entourage (price when new: $23,795 to $28,795), both of which received better reviews. Sources mainly said that the 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan is dated compared to minivans from the same model year; a 2008 update to the Grand Caravan and its sister model, the Chrysler Town & Country, has reportedly breathed new life into what many reviewers claimed was an outdated and uninspired design in 2007.

We found a couple of detailed comparative reviews of the 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan. Edmunds.com editors pitted the Grand Caravan against its closest competitors in the minivan segment, demonstrating how each model stacked up against its peers. Car and Driver included the 2005 Grand Caravan in a road test with four other minivans dating from 2004. We found a well written and fun to read review at PaddockTalk.com, where the 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan was tested head-to-head with the 2007 Hyundai Entourage.

2007 Dodge Grand Caravan
Editors of Edmunds.com

Edmunds.com didn't test the Dodge Grand Caravan head-to-head with other minivans, but its editors did make some casual comparisons. They noted that the 2007 Grand Caravan offers plenty of useful features, such as the Stow 'n Go seating and storage system. However, they added that its older design is not competitive with the contemporary class leaders, and that the price advantage Dodge minivans used to enjoy has been rendered moot by new offerings from Korea that drive better and cost less.

Road Test: Mini Van Showdown 2007
Iain Shankland
Jan. 5, 2007

Iain Shankland of the enthusiast site PaddockTalk.com conducted a comparative test of the 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan and the new-in-2007 Hyundai Entourage. Four families with both children and experience with minivan ownership participated as judges. Included in the scoring were categories for driver comfort, comfort and ease for all rows of seating, exterior styling and more.

2007 Dodge Grand Caravan
Editors of Consumer Reports

Consumer Reports last tested the Dodge Grand Caravan for the 2005 model year, but since this minivan wasn't substantially updated until the 2008 model year, the testing here still has some relevance to the 2007 model. Also included are ratings for predicted long-term reliability based on Consumer Reports' annual reader survey.

This is an excellent head-to-head comparison of five minivans based on hands-on testing. While the Dodge Grand Caravan wasn’t substantially redesigned until 2008, other minivans saw significant upgrades between this article’s 2004 publication and the 2007 Grand Caravan’s debut, rendering this comparison far less valuable.

2006 Dodge Caravan/Grand Caravan Review
Mitch McCullough

Automotive.com last reviewed the Dodge Grand Caravan for the 2006 model year, focusing more on features, with some casual comparisons to the competitions. Reviews at Automotive.com tend to be less critical than reviews in other publications, so -- while we appreciate the detailed approach -- we wish this review were a little harder-hitting.

6. Consumer Guide.com
2005-2007 Dodge Grand Caravan Review
Editors of ConsumerGuide.com

Reviews at ConsumerGuide.com are full of information on standard features, engine types, options and pricing, but the editorial road test results aren't that easy to read. The bonus here are the pages on used cars, where editors document problems and recalls with prior model year cars and trucks.
