2007 Toyota Sienna Review

(*est. $24,155 to $37,665)

This page is part of a larger ConsumerSearch report on Minivans which includes more reviews, analysis and a summary of the top-rated models.

What the reviewers like:
The base-model 2007 Toyota Sienna gets good scores for fuel economy and engine power. You might find a Sienna with all-wheel-drive, a rare feature on minivans, and one that's an advantage in harsh winter climates. Experts also said the Sienna is refined, with quality materials and construction, and a roomy interior. Value retention is good.

What the reviewers don't like:
The Toyota Sienna does not have the sporty driving dynamics of the Honda Odyssey, reviewers said. Some experts described both braking and the driving experience as "vague."

2007 Toyota Sienna review highlights

The Toyota Sienna remains the second-place pick to the Honda Odyssey (price when new: $25,645 to $39,095) in most 2007 reviews, although it received almost unanimous praise from critics -- especially for its upgraded, more powerful engine. If you live in an area with harsher winters and want all-wheel drive, you might find a used Toyota Sienna wit all-wheel-drive (a feature not commonly found on minivans). Critics noted that the 2007 Toyota Sienna minivan comes loaded with the features families want: seats that split and fold into the floor, rolldown side windows, and lots of hooks, power sockets and storage cubbyholes. Owner satisfaction ratings are high, as is reliability, so the Toyota Sienna holds its value much better than most minivans.

We found some excellent, balanced reviews for the 2007 Toyota Sienna minivan, and the one at Edmunds.com is perhaps the best of them all. Editors did a good job comparing the Sienna to others and placing it in context with its competitors from the 2007 market. Consumer Reports also covered the ‘07 Toyota Sienna, including historical reliability data in its review. We also found useful reviews of the Sienna at Kiplinger's, which honored the 2007 Sienna with multiple awards, as well as at Canadian Driver and LASplash magazines, where editors conducted road tests of this minivan.

2007 Toyota Sienna Review
Editors of Edmunds.com

Edmunds.com didn't test the Toyota Sienna head-to-head against other minivans, but its editors did well at comparing it to its leading competitors. They noted that the 2007 Sienna's V6 is more powerful, and gets better fuel economy, than the 2006 model’s engine.

2007 Toyota Sienna Review
Editors of Consumer Reports

Consumer Reports included the 2007 Toyota Sienna in its ratings of minivans. Editors evaluated this model in terms of predicted reliability, based on past-model-year reader-survey data. The analysis here focused mainly on reliability, ride quality, handling and safety, but the writeup is short and lacking in depth compared to the review at Edmunds.com.

3. Kiplinger.com

Mark Solheim and Jessica Anderson
Nov. 2006

The Toyota Sienna won three awards from Kiplinger's magazine in 2007, including "Best New Minivan," "Best in Class Minivan" and "Most Fuel-Efficient Minivan." Reviewers Solheim and Anderson praised the Toyota Sienna's 266-hp engine, which gets 27 mpg on the highway, and said the 2007 Sienna "leapfrogs" the Honda Odyssey in power and fuel economy.

James Bergeron
Feb. 26, 2007

Reviewer James Bergeron test-drove the 2007 Sienna and complimented this minivan on its comfortable ride and long list of features. This review actually reported on four days of testing, which results in a nice balance. Bergeron didn't compare the Toyota Sienna minivan to others, however.

5. Consumer Guide.com
2004-2007 Toyota Sienna Review
Editors of ConsumerGuide.com

Instead of a narrative review, editors provide a chart of numerical ratings with one or two comments. The site is a good place to find detailed specification information on the 2007 Toyota Sienna, however, and it was chosen by editors as "Recommended" when it was new. Especially helpful is repair and reliability data from prior model years.

6. Splash Magazine
2007 Toyota Sienna Review / Road Test
Craig Howie

Auto reporter Craig Howie test drove the 2007 Toyota Sienna and described it as swift and refined, but also nimble and easy to drive. Unfortunately, this review isn't very balanced, with no criticisms to counterweight Howie's enthusiasms. As a result, this is more of a feature article than a true review.
