5 Best Trucks
Csaba Csere
Mar. 2007
Veteran Car and Driver editor Csaba Csere picks the best SUVs, pickup trucks and vans in a yearly test. However, this year, only the Honda Odyssey, Hyundai Entourage, Kia Sedona and Nissan Quest were considered contenders for top honors -- which makes this review quite limited in scope. The Honda Odyssey wins the highest rating for the sixth time in the seven years this category has been included. Editors say that the Odyssey has excellent ride control and accurate steering, and that the engine delivers smooth performance.

Editors at Consumer Reports magazine have great coverage of minivans. Along with a helpful summary page, a detailed road-test report for each model outlines handling and comfort features, along with reliability data based on annual subscriber surveys. This publication covers the less exciting minivan category better than publications like Road & Track and Motor Trend.

2007 Kia Sedona
Mark Williams
Jan. 2007
Reviewer Mark Williams describes the Kia Sedona in glowing terms. He claims that the Sedona "isn't just a huge improvement over the first, but it now contends for highest honors in its class." For a minivan competing with perennial winners such as the Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna, this is high praise. Williams likes the upgrades to the interior, the new V6 engine, and the low price tag of the Sedona when compared to the Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna. Shortcomings are understandable with the price tag, and for the future Williams asks Kia for a navigation system, all-wheel drive, and better rear-seating options.

CarCritic.com is an unusual car-review site. Rather than a lengthy writeup, readers get a short synopsis along with a "RuthlessReview" evaluation and bottom-line assessment. Each review costs $1 to read (with a $5 minimum). Reviews are based on hands-on tests, along with user reviews, repair and reliability data and vehicle history. Among minivans, the Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna are highest rated. The Kia Sedona and Hyundai Entourage are also said to be good choices, with lots of safety features and a powerful engine.

New Car Reviews and Ratings: Minivan
Editors of ConsumerGuide.com
As of Apr. 2007

Consumer Guide's editors have written a fine buyer's guide, which we found useful for its detailed pricing and options information. However, no head-to-head tests are conducted. For 2007, the Honda Odyssey rates a Best Buy designation, and the Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey earn Smart Buy ratings. The Dodge Caravan, Chrysler Town & Country, Hyundai Entourage, Kia Sedona and Toyota Sienna all earn Recommended ratings.

Top Safety Pick 2007 Award Winners
Editors of IIHS.gov

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety crash-tests cars and trucks for three impact scenarios. Cars then receive ratings based on the results for each position. In order to merit recognition as a top safety pick, a car must get the highest rating of "good" in all three crash tests, plus offer electronic stability control. The top minivan for 2007 is the Kia Sedona/Hyundai Entourage. No other 2007 minivan received a rating of good in all three tests, and stability control is standard.

How the Toyota Sienna stacks up against the Honda Odyssey
Nigel Cooper
Not Dated
NewCars.com reviews follow a cookbook-type formula to evaluate two vehicles. However, useful insights may be gained by looking at these reviews. Reviewer Nigel Cooper claims that the Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey are not that much different in fuel economy, while the Toyota is priced substantially less than a Honda Odyssey. EPA numbers confirm the fuel economy claim, with the 2WD Sienna and the 2WD Odyssey scoring the same 19 miles per gallon city/26 miles per gallon highway figures. Only the all-wheel-drive Sienna falls short of the Odyssey as far as fuel economy. Cooper goes on to claim that there is no clear-cut winner in areas such as utility and handling, while taller drivers will like the Sienna better due to extra headroom.

2007 Hyundai Entourage Road Test
Rob Rothwell
Mar. 2006
Canadian auto writer Rob Rothwell attended the Western Canadian launch of the 2007 Hyundai Entourage and was favorably impressed. Hyundai claims a commitment to exceed consumer expectations, and Rothwell reports that in his opinion Hyundai has been successful by widening the margin of "over-delivery" vs. expectations. The author enjoys the smooth and secure ride of the Entourage. He feels the Entourage is a fine example of what he describes as reliable and high-value automobiles, and expects the Entourage to significantly shake up the minivan market.

Test Drive: 2007 Hyundai Entourage GL with Comfort Package
Jil McIntosh
Aug. 2006
Canadian writer Jil McIntosh conducts what she describes as "purely unscientific" automotive studies, located in grocery store parking lots. Her position is that minivans are work trucks for families, and as such they need to be cost-efficient. She likes the fact that the Entourage is a good value, has a long warranty period, and earns top scores in Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) crash testing. She is favorably impressed with seating and engine power. McIntosh recommends the Entourage, and feels buyers should also test drive the Kia Sedona, a sister vehicle. She suggests that the Sedona and Entourage are similar enough that a decision between the two may come down to which dealer is most convenient.

Day-by-Day Review: 2007 Toyota Sienna XLE AWD
James Bergeron
Feb. 26, 2007
Canadian reviewer James Bergeron praises the 2007 Sienna as being "feature rich and comfy." The tested Limited XLE AWD model seems to have everything, with the only options being navigation and DVD entertainment systems. Bergeron notes that the Sienna can be ordered with seating for eight and that with standard seating for seven, the Sienna is not really "mini." He describes the Sienna as comfortable for long hauls, with plenty of leg and shoulder room. He describes the driving experience as "vague," while noting that the AWD system works well in slippery conditions.
