Logitech G5 Laser Mouse Review

(*est. $50) Compare Prices

This page is part of a larger ConsumerSearch report on Computer Mice and Trackballs which includes more reviews, analysis and a summary of the top-rated models.

What the reviewers like:
The Logitech G5's 2000-dpi laser engine produces precise tracking and smooth movement, which is great for gaming performance. The G5 adjusts sensitivity on the fly. The grip is comfortable. The mouse comes with weights; you can experiment to find which feels best for you. The software allows considerable customization. The latest revision of the Logitech G5 gaming mouse adds a much-requested second thumb button.

What the reviewers don't like:
Reviewers bemoan a shortage of buttons on the corded Logitech G5 gaming mouse. The G5, like most Logitech mice, is contoured for right-handed use only.

Logitech G5 Laser Mouse review highlights

A near consensus of reviewers agrees that the Logitech G5 is the best corded gaming mouse. The G5 is considerably cheaper than the cordless version, the Logitech G7 (*est. $75), but the two mice are fraternal twins. While some reviewers prefer the G5 to the G7, most say the choice amounts to personal preference. One reviewer prefers the Logitech G5 because frequently changing batteries on the G7 is annoying.

ExtremeTech.com, SharkyExtreme.com and Virtual-Hideout.net have the best reviews of the Logitech G5 corded gaming mouse. EverythingUSB.com and XYZComputing.com have good reviews, but those don't really help readers decide if the G5 is the best gaming mouse. Logitech has recently made minor revisions to the G5, most notably adding a frequently requested second thumb button. But based on reviewers' comments, the changes should not affect the validity of older reviews.

ExtremeTech's Ultimate Mouse Smack-Down
Jeremy Atkinson
Dec. 27, 2006

This comprehensive roundup review rates the best and worst mice in multiple categories, including gaming. The Logitech G5 is better than the eight other gaming mice under consideration. The justification for the high rating is well explained, and the article links to full reviews of all the mice covered in the roundup.

Vince Freeman

SharkyExtreme.com's Vince Freeman doesn't review as many mice as others, but the reviews are excellent. The Logitech G5 is directly compared with the G7 and the older Logitech MX518 Gaming-Grade Optical Mouse (*est. $40). An overall rating is augmented with subcategory ratings.

Virtual-Hideout.net is one of the few to have reviewed the very latest revision of the Logitech G5, now with an extra thumb button. This report makes several relevant comparisons and concludes with a list of pros and cons. Testing is superb.

4. EverythingUSB.com

This review of the Logitech G5 is practical, detailed and includes lots of useful photos and screen shots. However, comparison is only with an earlier Logitech mouse, and products aren't rated or ranked.
