Razer DeathAdder Review

(*est. $55) Compare Prices

This page is part of a larger ConsumerSearch report on Computer Mice and Trackballs which includes more reviews, analysis and a summary of the top-rated models.

What the reviewers like:
Reviewers say the shape of the Razer DeathAdder is so comfortable for right-handers that it requires no adjustment time. The lack of a laser makes no perceivable difference, and keeps cost down. Experts say the Razer DeathAdder is responsive and glides well. The software allows great control and the mouse has five programmable buttons. Build quality is impressive.

What the reviewers don't like:
The Razer DeathAdder can only be used by right-handers because of its contoured shape. This is a wired gaming mouse; some people prefer a wireless controller. A couple of reviewers would like more buttons. Among reviewers who compare the two, most prefer the Logitech G7.

Razer DeathAdder review highlights

The Razer DeathAdder gaming mouse differs from other Razer mice. It uses an infrared sensor instead of a laser, which presumably lowers the cost. It is contoured for right-handers, while the Razer Diamondback (*est. $40) and Copperhead (*est. $60) have a symmetrical design appropriate for either hand. Right-handed reviewers prefer the contoured shape, but left-handers won't be able to use the DeathAdder. The DeathAdder is good enough to be compared with the Logitech G7 Laser Cordless Mouse (*est. $75), which most reviewers consider the best gaming mouse overall. But in those direct comparisons, no reviewer says the Razer DeathAdder is better.

The Razer DeathAdder is one of the newest wired gaming mice in the marketplace. X-bit Labs, HardwareLogic.com, OCIA.net, Techgage Networks, and Virtual-Hideout.net all have good reviews supported by ample testing. While there are plenty of other reviews for the Razer DeathAdder out there, many are not critical and do little to inform a potential buyer.

1. XBitLabs.com
Professional Gaming Mice: Razer DeathAdder vs. Microsoft Habu
Kirill "ALT-F13" Balalin
Apr. 5, 2007

This comprehensive review directly compares two closely related products, and also compares them with other Razer mice. The review explains that the Microsoft Habu (*est. $55) is a Razer Copperhead in the case of a Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer. The review will help readers decide between the Razer DeathAdder, Diamondback and Copperhead mice, and whether to consider the Microsoft Habu.

2. HardwareLogic.com
Razer DeathAdder Mouse Review
Paul Lilly
Apr. 19, 2007

HardwareLogic.com's review is comparative, illustrated and supported by practical testing. The rating system is divided into six weighted subcategories, and reasons for each subcategory rating are documented. Finally, HardwareLogic.com editors link to other good reviews of the same product.

3. OverClock Intelligence Agency (OCIA.net)
Razer DeathAdder Gaming Mouse Review
Shawn "playafly187" Knight
Mar. 2, 2007

In this review, the Razer DeathAdder is directly compared with the Logitech G7 in all regards. The conclusion is too vague. Only the lack of a specific recommendation of the DeathAdder tells us which mouse the reviewer thinks is better.

4. Techgage.com
Razer DeathAdder Gaming Mouse Review
Greg King
Mar. 9, 2007

This solid review compares the DeathAdder with other mice from Razer and Logitech. The DeathAdder is tested for two weeks, and testing involves both work and play. The review is weakened by a conclusion that doesn't express a clear preference for one mouse, or tradeoffs between the top contenders.

5. Virtual-Hideout.net
Razer DeathAdder Gaming Mouse Review
Grant "Millsy" Mills
Apr. 18, 2007

Reviewer and admitted Razer fan Grant "Millsy" Mills says, "I've spent my time testing out the DeathAdder against all the other mice I've got." In spite of the great approach, this review lacks the depth of many of Virtual-Hideout.net's mouse reviews, and it also lacks a list of pros and cons. Comparisons are primarily with the Razer Copperhead.
