Logitech QuickCam Fusion review highlights

Getting a handle on where the Logitech QuickCam Fusion stacks up in the market can be confusing as some older reviews don’t take into consideration newer webcams such as the Logitech QuickCam Ultra Vision (*est. $100). Generally, the Ultra Vision gets the nod for image quality, but the QuickCam Fusion sells for considerably less and offers many of the same features, though not the same high-grade optics.

We found many good reviews of the Logitech QuickCam Fusion, but even the best reviews include little direct comparison. Extremeoctech.com has the best coverage, but only if you also read their review of the Logitech QuickCam Ultra Vision, the other leading contender for best webcam. WebUser.co.uk has comparisons through ratings of five webcams reviewed in the same issue. ExtremeTech.com has the best multimedia presentation; since this is a video camera, a video can be very revealing. The review for the Logitech QuickCam Fusion at Tweaknews is long and accompanied by still images. Australian PC World just has a single rating, but reviews more Webcams than most sources.

Logitech Quickcam Fusion Review
Jason Fetzko
Apr. 14, 2006

This review is not directly comparative, but in a subsequent review of the Logitech QuickCam Ultra Vision SE, Jason Fetzko explains why the Ultra Vision is better. The review is very well balanced, and Fetzko demonstrates declines in image quality at higher resolutions. He references other reviews in saying, “I don't see how others can say it takes awesome pictures at [1.3 megapixels].”

2. WebUser.co.uk
Logitech Quickcam Fusion Review
Andy Shaw
Updated July 8, 2006

The Logitech QuickCam Fusion is separately reviewed in a roundup of five webcams. The review is short and too focused on features, but subcategory and overall ratings make it easy to compare models.

3. Tweaknews.net
Logitech QuickCam Fusion Webcam Review
Mike Carter
Oct. 17, 2006

In this review, Mike Carter rambles until he’s blue in the face -- at least that’s what the stills from the Logitech QuickCam Fusion show. We’re troubled that Carter doesn’t mention the tint while he praises the virtues of the image quality. He only compares the Fusion with older webcams. His conclusions may be unduly favorable because his frame of reference is a low bar to hurdle.

4. Extreme Tech.com
A Better Webcam? Logitech's QuickCam Fusion
Jason Cross
Dec. 21, 2005

This older review is greatly enhanced by a Flash video that demonstrates the Logitech QuickCam Fusion in action. Flesh tones in the video are unconvincing. People look too red and too blue. The review attempts to explain the relative value of the Logitech QuickCam Fusion, but ExtremeTech does not review another webcam.

5. PC World
Logitech QuickCam Fusion Review
Editors of PC World Australia
Jan. 13, 2006

This review is so short that performance is inadequately addressed. On the other hand, PC World is a prolific reviewer of webcams, and the four-star rating can be placed in context of other reviewed models. The review does say that the performance of the Logitech QuickCam Fusion is worth the high price.
