1.  Consumer Reports Cordless Phones Making New Connection

Editors of Consumer Reports

Aug. 2007
reviews rating The most up-to-date comparative review we find, this article reports on 26 cordless phones and cordless phone/answering machine combos. Editors provide an overview of current trends including new DECT phones, VoIP dual phones and integrated Bluetooth technology. The article discusses important features and how to choose between models. A ratings chart is included, but interestingly, there isn’t a huge performance gap between best and worst cordless phones.
2.  Consumer Reports Cordless Phones for a Cellular World

Editors of Consumer Reports

Oct. 2006
reviews rating Although this report is older, it includes a larger number of tested cordless phones and phone/answering machines. Many of these phones are still available, but are not included in Consumer Reports’ more recent test. For that reason, the article still has some value. Editors also discuss differences between analog, digital and digital spread spectrum (DSS) technologies. A sidebar article covers a couple of phones for aging eyes and ears.

3.  ABC Channel 7 (San Francisco) Product Test on Cordless Phones

Michael Finney

Aug. 28, 2007
reviews rating This broadcast story reports on the results of the latest cordless phone tests from the Good Housekeeping Institute. Out of 27 models tested, only three phones are discussed: the VTech 6032, Panasonic KX-TG1032s and GE 27909EE1. The test has not yet been posted to Good Housekeeping’s website. The worst performer was the Uniden DXA 156882.
4.  Wired Magazine Buzz Killers

Christopher Null

Jan. 2007
reviews rating Although only four phones are covered here, all were subjected to casual testing. All are 5.8 GHz phones, which are less likely to interfere with other electronics. Top-rated is the AT&T EP5995, with a color display, 21 ringtones and "crystal clear" audio. It also has an answering machine and supports up to eight handsets. The Uniden TRU 9485-2 is easy to use, with a clear speakerphone, but the handsets are a little awkward to hold. Two others aren't rated as highly.
5.  PC Magazine VoIP Phones, Round Three

Editors of PC Magazine

Apr. 10, 2007
reviews rating This article introduces the many different types of phones and headsets that can be used with VoIP services and/or software. Among dual phones – which can make both Skype calls and regular phone calls -- the Linksys CIT310, Linksys CIT400 and Netgear SPH200D all receive a “very good” rating. This page serves as a jumping off point for other phone reviews on the site.
6.  PC Magazine Dialing in Dual Phones

Davis D. Janowski

Oct. 23, 2006
reviews rating Davis Janowski discusses three dual phones that work with IM voice chat service and/or VoIP and landlines. The Radian SkyTone Cordless USB Phone RST501 sounds good, but doesn't work as a landline phone. The RTX USB DUALphone is the most full-featured and works with both Skype (but no other IM services) and a regular landline connection. The Uniden WIN1200 5.8 GHz Dual Mode Cordless Phone works with Windows Live Messenger 8 and a landline connection.
7.  Which.co.uk Cordless Phones

Editors of Which.co.uk

Aug. 17, 2007
reviews rating Which? is a UK magazine that's roughly the equivalent of Consumer Reports. Editors offer a detailed comparison and review of cordless phones. Detailed testing methods are described and Best Buy picks are awarded to four phones. Unfortunately, these phones are not available in the U.S. Panasonic and BT Equinox phones score the highest in this review.

8.  Business Week A Cut Above the Ordinary Cordless

Cliff Edwards

June 6, 2007
reviews rating This article covers the VTech 6042 digital phone and answering machine. Cliff Edwards writes that the sleekly designed VTech 6042 has good voice quality, easy setup and good range. Some drawbacks include the lack of a headphone jack and a color screen. No other cordless phones are tested or compared, however.
9.  Entrepreneur Magazine Twice as Nice

Mike Hogan

June 2007
reviews rating In this casual review of the Netgear SPH200D, Hogan writes that Internet-only calls can be “tinny” but no more so than on any cordless or cell phone. The phone also had no interruption of clarity or volume when Hogan “wandered down the street.” The Netgear SPH200D allows you to make regular calls as well as Skype calls. No other models are tested or compared, however.
10.  Amazon.com Cordless Phones

Contributors to Amazon.com

As of Oct. 2007
reviews rating There's a staggering assortment of cordless phones available at Amazon.com. Of the models that are rated by owners, most get an average rating of between three and four stars, making it tough to figure out which models might be better than others. Rather than being a starting point, a visit to Amazon.com makes the most sense once you've narrowed down your choice a bit. Most new phones have fewer reviews than those that have been on the market longer. User reviews of dual-mode phones are extensive.

11.  CNet.com Cordless phone reviews

Editors of CNet.com

As of Mar. 2006
reviews rating CNet.com has editorial and user reviews of cordless phones, but editors haven’t tested models in over a year (cell phones and some VoIP phones do get more recent reviews).
12.  Target.com Cordless Phones

Contributors to Target

As of Oct. 2007
reviews rating Like Amazon.com, Target.com is a good place to find owner reviews once you've narrowed down your choice. One advantage is that, since all these phones are actually sold by Target.com, you can at least be assured the phones haven't been discontinued.
13.  Epinions Cordless Phones

Contributors to Epinions

As of Oct. 2007
reviews rating Here, as at Amazon.com, users rate their own phones. The trouble with Epinions is that many discontinued phones are included here, so you have to be sure you're reading reviews for a phone that's actually available.
14.  House Beautiful Technophobia: Cordless Phones

Terry Trucco

May 2006
reviews rating This article presents an interview with Best Buy's John Zittrauer regarding cordless phones. Helpful general information regarding the differences between corded and cordless phones is shared, along with the different types of frequencies and phone technologies. No phones are tested or recommended, however.
