What the reviewers like:
The 32-inch Syntax-Brillian Olevia 532H delivers an image that critics describe as pleasing overall, especially considering the Olevia's low price. Strong points include color rendition that’s better than many other LCD TVs and great detail in all but the darkest scenes. In short, reviews say this is a good HDTV overall and an excellent value. What the reviewers don't like: Several critics say black levels don’t match those of the better LCD TVs, and detail in darker scenes is sometimes lacking. False contouring can be seen in some dark scenes. The menu system is unusual and takes some getting used to. Part of the issue, according to some reviews, is that picture settings lack numerical values, which makes adjustments more difficult. Syntax-Brillian Olevia 532H review highlights In reviews, the 32-inch Syntax-Brillian Olevia 532H is noted as a good performing LCD TV and an excellent value. Like many LCD TVs, some experts say shadow detail is lacking. Black level, though short of the best LCD TVs, is better than most, critics say. The picture is very pleasing overall, with great color and superb detail in brighter scenes. The biggest issue noted in reviews is a user interface that’s described as unusual and confusing. By comparison, the Sony BRAVIA KDL-32S2400 (*est. $1,345) has better image quality, but that HDTV is almost twice as expensive as the Olevia 532H. Consumer Reports is the best site for a comparative review of the 32-inch Syntax-Brillian Olevia 532H. The magazine provides numerical scores and rankings in a number of areas, as well as an overall rating that makes it easy to see which LCD TVs rate best overall. One downside is that individual sets get only a few lines of commentary. The Perfect Vision tests and reviews far fewer LCD TVs than Consumer Reports, but the reviews themselves are longer, packed with lots of technical details and practical information. Although numerical ratings are given, and best performing TVs are recognized, there’s no easy way for users to compare the TVs to one another at The Perfect Vision.
