Reviewers say that the Panasonic TH-42PX60U offers a good mix of performance and price. Connectivity is excellent, with two HDMI inputs for HD sources such as cable/satellite boxes and high definition DVD players. Reviewers say color decoding is accurate. The remote is logically laid out and has oversized keys. While this Panasonic plasma TV is not loaded with features, many people won't cares about those extras anyway.

What the reviewers don't like:
While black levels are good, CNet.com notes that they can fluctuate with the brightness of a scene. Some testers note that the color green has a slightly bluish tint. The TV doesn't have a lot of extra features, and audio quality is deemed only adequate in reviews. Like most 42-inch plasma TVs, the Panasonic TH-42PX60U has a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels, which falls short of the full HD resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels.

Panasonic TH-42PX60U review highlights

The Panasonic TH-42PX60U is one of the better 42-inch plasma TVs according to the reviews we read. Experts say colors are accurate, black levels are rich and deep, and this Panasonic plasma TV is a good value. However, the Panasonic TH-42PX60U is a little light on features, with no picture-in-picture or CableCard support. Panasonic offers a step-up version, the Panasonic TH-42PX600U (*est. $1,800), which delivers the same image quality and adds a ton of bells and whistles, including a better sound system, but it is more expensive. This TV is being phased out, so it may be selling for a discount now.

We found several detailed professional evaluations of the 42-inch Panasonic TH-42PX60U plasma TV. The best of these comes from CNet.com, where editors give all tested televisions numerical ratings, making it easy to compare results. Consumer Reports has tested the Panasonic TH-42PX60U in a less detailed review. Home Theater magazine reviews the Panasonic TH-42PX60U as part of an all Panasonic home theater system. PlasmaTV Buying Guide.com's report on the TH-42PX60U is detailed, but the write up is a little over the top and not as professional as those at CNet.com or Consumer Reports.
