What the reviewers like:
The Panasonic TH-58PX600U is one of the most feature-rich plasma TVs -- and at 58-inches, it’s also one of the largest flat-screen HDTVs. Reviews say it has a great feature set and connectivity, along with very good image quality. One concern is the TV’s resolution, which at 1366 x 768, falls short of the highest current resolution of 1920 x 1080 sported by some larger LCD televisions. However, reviews say the lower resolution won’t matter much for casual viewing, and that the picture does look very sharp. The integrated speakers on the Panasonic TH-58PX600U are far better than speakers on other plasma TVs. What the reviewers don't like: While black levels are good, reviews say that they aren't quite up to the level of the very best plasma TVs. In some tests, minor false contouring and low-level noise artifacts show up in darker image areas. Some experts question the Panasonic TH-58PX600U's native resolution of 1366 x 768, lower than the current top resolution (1920 x 1080) achieved by many LCD televisions. A few newer plasma TVs do offer the higher resolution, but they cost far more. Panasonic TH-58PX600U review highlights Reviews say that in many ways, the 58-inch Panasonic TH-58PX600U plasma HDTV is in a class by itself. The 58-inch screen size is unique, shared only by the Panasonic TH-58PX60U (*est. $2,500), a similarly performing set with fewer features. According to reviews, the Pioneer PDP-6070HD (*est. $4,000), provides a slightly better picture quality and a slightly larger image size, but at a substantially higher price. The Panasonic TH-58PX600U is now being phased out, so it may be available at clearance prices. Consumer Reports has evolved into an interesting reviewer of TVs. While editors have lagged in the past in terms of keeping up with the latest technology, the magazine's TV reviews are now updated much more frequently. The 58-inch Panasonic TH-58PX600U has been tested and rated by Consumer Reports, along with dozens of other plasma TVs. CNet.com is another excellent reviewer of TVs, and while their reviews are far and away more detailed and convincing that those at Consumer Reports, editors haven't tested the Panasonic TH-58PX600U. However, they did test the Panasonic TH-42PX60U (*est. $1,500), a simpler, smaller model with fewer features.
