Pioneer PDP-5070HD Review(*est. $2,600)You are here: Electronics >> Plasma TV >> Pioneer PDP-5070HDThis page is part of a larger ConsumerSearch report on Plasma TV which includes more reviews, analysis and a summary of the top-rated models.
What the reviewers like:
In testing, the top-rated Pioneer PDP-5070HD plasma TV is judged to have accurate color decoding along with the ability to reproduce deep blacks. Color saturation is also excellent. There are enough inputs and outputs -- including two HDMI inputs and one PC input -- to handle almost any home-theater situation. While the TV can't display 1080p signals (the panel's native resolution is 1,365 x 768 pixels), the HDMI inputs can accept 1080p/24 frame-per-second (FPS) signals from as Blu-Ray or HD-DVD DVD players. What the reviewers don't like: There are few consistent complaints about the Pioneer PDP-5070HD plasma TV -- the main concern is cost relative to the competition. Sets with almost as good image quality can be found for considerably less. One review does turn up an inaccurate green primary color out of the box (a common issue with plasma displays), but this can be adjusted. Pioneer PDP-5070HD review highlights While still expensive compared to some options, the Pioneer PDP-5070HD provides a great balance of performance and value, if you want a 50-inch plasma TV. Although reviews say the image performance lags slightly behind that of the Pioneer Elite HDTVs, including the 50-inch PRO-1140HD (*est. $3,000), the difference is not large, and the Pioneer PDP-5070HD is a bit less expensive. Reviews say the Pioneer PDP-5070HD has very accurate color decoding, along with the ability to display deep blacks, which is important for getting a cinematic experience. The competing Panasonic TH-50PH9UK (*est. $1,670) is less expensive than the Pioneer PDP-5070HD and can compete with its picture quality, but it’s a professional monitor that lacks tuners and is almost devoid of features. By a wide margin, we found the most credible professional review for the Pioneer PDP-5070HD at CNet.com. While CNet.com does not conduct many multi-product roundups, the site awards numerical ratings so readers can quickly see which TVs in a category are considered best. While the Pioneer PDP-5070HD makes a list of the editor's top flat panel TVs at Home Theater magazine, the review itself is exceedingly short and provides little evidence of testing. The quality of the reviews at Digital Trends.com is spotty overall, and most plasma TVs don't get a professional review. However, the write-up on the Pioneer PDP-5070HD is among the better reviews on the site. User reviews at Amazon.com and AVSForum.com are helpful in learning how happy most owners are with the Pioneer plasma TV after their purchase.
