JVC AV-32F577 Review

(*est. $565)

This page is part of a larger ConsumerSearch report on Televisions which includes more reviews, analysis and a summary of the top-rated models.

What the reviewers like:
The 32-inch JVC AV32F577 is one the better 32-inch TVs available from a major manufacturer, and is somewhat of a value considering its performance. The picture quality is generally good, and the JVC AV32F577 has a flat picture tube to minimize glare and reflections. The basic electronic programming guide can be useful for those who don’t subscribe to cable or satellite TV. The digital tuner means this TV won’t become obsolete when analog broadcasting ends, and QAM compatibility means the JVC AV32F577 can receive unscrambled digital cable TV signals without a box.

What the reviewers don't like:
Although the JVC AV32F577 offers good video performance with digital and analog signals, performance is said to be noticeably better with digital inputs. The built-in-audio system is rather underpowered at just 5 watts per channel. While there are lots of analog inputs, there’s only a single component video input. Although the JVC AV32F577 can receive HDTV signals, it can only display those in standard definition.

JVC AV-32F577 review highlights

The 32-inch JVC AV32F577 (*est. $565) is considered to be a good choice for someone interested in a conventional big-screen standard-definition TV that won’t become obsolete in early 2009, when analog broadcasting ends. Although the feature set is not particularly strong, the JVC AV32F5777 can create a program guide for over-the-air stations using the PSIP (Program and System Information Protocol) information that’s sent out by broadcasters as part of the digital TV signal. While the set has a digital tuner and can receive HD programming, it can only display that programming in standard definition (480i).

While few conventional CRT-based TVs get much in the way of coverage these days, the 32-inch JVC AV32F577 (*est. $565) is the subject of a report at Consumer Guide, an improving source of product reviews. The site’s editors do a respectable job of going over the JVC AV32F577's strengths and weaknesses, and provide some basic insights on what kind of performance a user can expect. We found no user feedback on this TV, but the 27-inch version of this TV is the subject of a handful of positive notices at Amazon.com and Epinions.com.

Although Consumer Guide isn't the best review resource, it has improved to the point where it is now one of the better places to learn about CRT televisions such as the JVC AV32F577. While it still does not appear that much in the way of formal testing is going on, the site’s editors do a good job walking potential buyers through the high and low points of a TV and render opinions on performance, features, ease of use and more.
