What the reviewers like:
Most reports say picture quality is first rate on the 19-inch Sharp LC-19DV22U. The internal progressive-scan DVD player eliminates clutter. Setup and use is complimented as easy. The digital ATSC tuner means that this TV-DVD combo won't become obsolete when analog broadcasting ends in Feb. 2009. What the reviewers don't like: The single biggest knock against the 19-inch LC-19DV22U is its excessively slow speeds when changing channels using the integrated digital tuner. Image quality is better on digital/HD channels than on analog channels. Some complain that the sound volume is too low. Sharp LC-19DV22U review highlights According to reviews, a 19-inch screen is ideal for bedroom viewing, and the Sharp LC-19DV22U TV-DVD combo is the best bet in that picture size. This TV-DVD combo is a widescreen HD model with a native resolution of 1440 x 900 pixels. The built in DVD player is progressive-scan, but it can't upscale DVDs to HD resolution. Not everyone is a fan, however, and we've seen some complaints that this TV-DVD combo is very slow when changing channels. The Toshiba 19HLV87 (*est. $400) is its closest competitor. Like the LC-19DV22U, that Toshiba TV-DVD combo is a widescreen HDTV with a native resolution of 1440 x 900 pixels. However, there is a significant amount of negative feedback for this set, with issues ranging from freezes to bad inputs to poor documentation. On the other hand, an almost equal number of users are perfectly happy with the Toshiba TV-DVD combo. User reviews provide the best guidance for the 19-inch Sharp LC-19DV22U TV-DVD combo, and we found the most feedback at CircuitCity.com. Circuit City's website does not list the number of reviews on the main navigation page, so it is a little harder to use than some other review sources, but does offer sub-ratings for sound quality, picture quality and more, which make it easy to see strong and weak points at a glance. Amazon.com is easier to use, and includes the number of ratings right on the main navigation page, but has fewer reviews overall for the Sharp LC-19DV22U. Pricegrabber.com had only two brief reviews at the time of our last visit. Also see full report: TV-DVD Combos *In order of credibility (see our Ratings Criteria).1.
