Sassy MAM UltiVent
(*est. $5.50 for one 9-oz. bottle)
>> Where to buy
|
BPA-free plastic baby bottle. Sassy's MAM UltiVent baby bottles get excellent reviews from parents. They come in several sizes and colors, and all have soft silicone nipples, which are preferred by experts over latex nipples. Parents say the removable bottom makes the MAM easy to clean, and moms who use formula say it works well for both mixing and feeding. The MAM baby bottle contains no Bisphenol-A, a substance approved as safe by the FDA, but which some parents say they would rather avoid.

Playtex Drop-Ins Premium Nurser
(*est. $4.50 for one 8-oz. bottle)
>> Where to buy
|
Bottle system with disposable liners. The Playtex Drop-Ins Premium Nurser combines a permanent outer bottle and nipple with a disposable inner liner. Parents give it good reviews for its ease of cleaning -- you just throw the liner away and rinse the nipple and ring. They also like the fact that air can be squeezed out before the bottle is given to the baby. Moms who use breast pumps appreciate being able to attach a liner to the pump and then use the same liner for feeding. Although the bottle itself is inexpensive, the cost of liners does add up -- but many parents say the convenience is worth the ongoing extra cost. The liners are BPA-free.

The First Years Breastflow
(*est. $6.50 for one 9-oz. bottle)
>> Where to buy
|
Breastfeeding-friendly baby bottle. Although it also works for full-time formula feeding, The First Years Breastflow gets exceptionally positive reviews from breastfeeding mothers who supplement with bottles. The unusual double nipple incorporates a soft outer layer with a harder inner layer to force a baby to drink using a correct nursing latch. Parent reviews say this design helps prevent nipple confusion in babies who switch between breast and bottle. It also works well for babies who are having a hard time learning to use a bottle after being exclusively breastfed. The plastic used for this bottle contains BPA, which may or may not concern you.

Dr Browns Natural Flow
(*est. $5 for one 8-oz. bottle)
>> Where to buy
|
Bottle for colicky babies. Dr. Brown's Natural Flow Bottle incorporates a straw-like tube to eliminate the vacuum created when a baby sucks on a regular bottle. The purpose of this system is to reduce gassiness and colic caused by excess air intake during feeding. Although there's no guarantee that a particular bottle will eliminate colic, many parent reviewers say their babies are less fussy with the Dr. Brown's Natural Flow than with other bottles. The tube that makes this bottle helpful, though, also makes it harder to clean, so parents with babies who don't suffer from gas or colic might prefer a simpler design. The Natural Flow Bottle is available in polycarbonate plastic (which contains BPA) as well as glass and BPA-free polypropylene.

Evenflo Classic Glass Nurser
(*est. $3 for one 8-oz. bottle)
>> Where to buy
|
Basic glass baby bottle. Evenflo's Classic Glass Nurser gets praise from parents who prefer not to use plastic bottles. Besides being BPA-free, it has a simple and traditional design that many users say they like. The simplicity of this bottle also makes it easy to assemble and clean. However, parents of gas-prone babies might do better with one of the other top-rated bottles, most of which have added air-reduction features. Even tempered safety glass requires more careful handling than plastic, but most reviews say the Evenflo Classic is durable and safe.

We found
that parent-written user reviews are the most helpful in determining
the best baby bottles, and we give more weight to those. While several
reviewers give the Avent Natural Feeding Bottle their top rating, users
posting to consumer review sites give better ratings overall to the
Sassy MAM UltiVent. Dr. Brown's Natural Flow Bottle gets consistently
excellent ratings for its tube-style colic-reduction feature, and the
Evenflo Classic Glass Nurser gets good marks for its traditional glass
design. The Adiri Natural Nurser has been getting some positive attention
for its innovative shape. The Born Free BPA Free Baby Bottle does well
with some reviewers, but it gets just slightly above average ratings
from parents themselves. Several other baby bottles, including the Playtex
Drop-Ins Premium Nurser and The First Years Breastflow, don't get much
attention from professional reviewers but do very well in parent-written
reviews.
