Baby Bargains

Strollers
Denise and Alan Fields
Seventh Edition, 2007
|
|
Baby Bargains is a must-have for prospective or new parents, offering opinions, information and reviews of most types of baby products. What makes this the top review is the amount of information given about car seat/stroller combos. The authors have included an extensive amount of information about numerous strollers, including the ones that they felt failed to impress. The book is well-written, the information is helpful and there is more here than in any other source. It is the combination of these qualities that makes Baby Bargains the best review we found.

The staff of Consumer Reports tests car seats and strollers, but editors really don't discuss travel systems that much. Several of the strollers tested are available as travel systems, and Consumer Reports also tests two car seat carriers.

Baby-Gaga Stroller Reviews
Editors of Baby-Gaga.com
As of Nov. 2007
|
|
Editors at Baby-Gaga rate strollers by compiling parent reviews. Each stroller is rated according to several criteria – ease of use, weight, durability, maneuverability, comfort and safety – and assigned an overall letter grade. Only popular car seat strollers – those with at least 20 full-length consumer reviews -- are included in Baby-Gaga. Although there is no section devoted specifically to travel systems, several models are rated along with other standard strollers.

Car Seat/Stroller Combination
Editors of Best Baby Products
As of Nov. 2007
|
|
According to the editors of Best Baby Products, strollers are first tested by the staff, and then given to parents to test once the initial pool of products has been weaned. After the parents test and give their opinions, the products are once again tested by the staff. The editors of Best Baby Products chose the Evenflo Easy Comfort Premiere, Graco LiteRider and Baby Trend Snap–N-Go as their top-rated travel systems. Unfortunately, these ratings have not been updated in several years.

Travel Systems
Editors of ConsumerGuide.com

|
Consumer Guide rates eight travel systems, giving three car seat strollers a rating of "Best Buy.” Editors also rate each travel system on a scale of zero to five based on value, performance, ease of use, features and overall impression. However, none of the travel systems receive ratings of less than three. Editors don't disclose the extent to which these strollers were tested -- or who might have tried them out -- but editors do sometimes mention negatives such as poor steering control and cumbersome folding.

For travel systems, editors top-rate the Graco MetroLite car seat stroller, as well as the Cortina Travel System. Unfortunately, there's not much justification given for the choices, and reviews consist of a sentence or two for each pick.

Which? Is the European equivalent to Consumer Reports, conducting independent testing and posting reviews on a wide range of products. While Which? has a full section on strollers, including some travel systems, only European models are tested and reviewed, limiting the website's usefulness for American parents.

Mumsnet is a European website, and although there's some great safety information here, many of the strollers are not available in the U.S. This is a great stop if you are a European shopper, however.
