Double Strollers
Denise and Alan Fields
7th Edition, 2007
|
|
This excellent book includes buyer's guides and ratings on all types of baby gear, including double strollers. The authors say they conduct hands-on testing as well as parent, manufacturer and retailer interviews. Parents posting to Amazon.com say this is the best baby gear book available, and it includes sections aimed to steer parents away from unnecessary features. The book's online site (www.windsorpeak.com) includes a forum where parents can rate strollers. Baby Bargains devotes far more coverage to double strollers than Consumer Reports.

Double Stroller Ratings
Editors of Baby-Gaga.com
As of July 2007
|
|
Baby-Gaga.com grades strollers based on results from editor reviews and parent ratings. Each stroller is graded according to value, safety, convenience and comfort. The detailed writeups are easy to read and cover lots of models, which makes this site an excellent resource. The problem is that these ratings haven't been updated to include 2007 double strollers. High ratings go to the Phil & Teds e3 Explorer, the BOB Duallie, the Baby Jogger City Double and the Inglesina Twin Swift. The Graco DuoGlider is a "decent" affordable choice.

Test: Double strollers
Editors of Choice.com.au
July 2006

Australia's Choice magazine is roughly comparable in credibility and objectivity to Consumer Reports. Since this report is written for Australian readers, it has limited use for our report. Only three of the nine tested and rated double strollers are available in the U.S. The Mountain Buggy Urban Double is named a top pick. Meanwhile the Jeep Wagoneer LTD was too heavy and hard to maneuver. Editors have some safety concerns about the Peg-Perego Aria Twin.

This site primarily focuses on jogging strollers, though a few other double strollers are also included. Although most strollers don't get a huge number of parent comments, the reviews that are here are often very detailed and helpful. Occasionally, the site's editors add comments as to whether other users are having the same problems, or add suggestions to fix issues. More than 30 double and triple strollers are listed on this retail site, so it's also a good place just to see the range of jogging and all-terrain strollers for multiples. Because most strollers get a similar average rating, it's impossible to tell which might be overall favorites, however.

Amazon allows owners to rate and review products. There's a good selection of double strollers here, especially in the lower price ranges. Among the double strollers that have been rated by parents, only a few have more than ten comments. We found the largest number of reviews for the InStep Safari Double. Amazon.com is a good place to check once your choice is narrowed to a few models.

Frustratingly, Epinions does not have a special section for double strollers, so you have to search to find reviews. Most double strollers don't get more than one or two reviews, but twin strollers that have been on the market a while have accumulated a fair number of ratings. There are more reviews here for the Graco DuoGlider than at Amazon.com.

Consumer Reports is a reliable reviewer of strollers in general, but for this latest update, its coverage of double strollers is limited to a single discontinued stroller.

Which magazine is a UK-based consumer magazine and website that's comparable to Consumer Reports. Which magazine actually tests far more strollers than Consumer Reports (51 altogether) but a large percentage of these are not available in the U.S. Unfortunately, editors don't rate any double strollers at all for this report.

Top Ten Strollers for Multiples
Pamela Prindle Fierro
Not Dated
|
|
Pamela Prindle Fierro is the About.com guide for Parenting of Multiples. Fierro has compiled a list of top strollers for multiples, although there is no indication that testing was performed on the strollers. The writeups are based on features, but Fierro does include a couple of critical comments. The presence of several discontinued models leads us to suspect this undated article was written several years ago. Fierro identifies the Graco DuoRider and Baby Trend Snap-N-Go Deluxe as her top two, but she doesn't say why. (Note: ConsumerSearch is owned by About.com/The New York Times.)

Top 7 Double Strollers for Two Children, Babies or Twins
Robin Elise Weiss
Not Dated

|
Interestingly, there are actually two places at About.com where you can find a list of the "top" double strollers. One is from the Guide to Multiples, and the other is from About.com's Guide to Pregnancy. The two lists don't correspond at all. This list includes the Graco DuoGlider and Baby Trend Sit N Stand, as well as others. The writeups are very short and don't include any indication that the writer tried out these strollers. Since several discontinued double strollers are included on the list, we're guessing it hasn't been updated in several years. (Note: ConsumerSearch is owned by About.com/The New York Times.)

BabyCenter.com is mainly a retail portal, but parents are invited to rate products for a reviews section. Unfortunately, many double strollers are only rated by one or two parents, and the reviews themselves are usually very short. There aren't enough reviews here to gauge any overall consensus.

LilaGuide.com is part of a family of websites that includes TheNest.com (for newlyweds) and TheKnot.com (for those getting married). This new website doesn't yet have a lot of stroller reviews, but the reviews that are posted seem more critical than writeups on some other sites. While there aren't enough reviews to be terribly useful, this site is worth watching.

Baby Gear Reviews & Resources – Reviews – Double Stroller
"Bobby"
Not Dated
|
|
This site is the work of "Bobby," a self-described product fanatic who has been a product-review blogger since March 2006. Phil & Teds Sport Buggy Double is called the best convertible stroller, because of its ease of use and the fact that it can fit in a car trunk. While no other double strollers are rated, this is a very detailed single-stroller review.

Phil & Ted's Sport Buggy Lives Up To Its Name

If you're into strollers you'll enjoy this blog, which accompanies a retail site. Along with reviews, this is a good place for news on new and upcoming strollers, including jogging strollers and all-terrain strollers. Right now there isn't much here, but if it's kept up to date, this promises to be a fun blog. One nice entry compares the now-discontinued Phil & Teds e3 Buggy with its replacement, the Sport Buggy.

Consumer Guide doesn't clearly explain how its picks are made, and the writeups more closely resemble manufacturer descriptions than product reviews. There's no section for double stroller ratings, but a couple of them are mixed in with other types.
