1.  Baby Bargains High Chairs

Denise and Alan Fields

Seventh Edition, Apr. 2007
reviews rating Consumer advocates Denise and Alan Fields test many of the products featured in this book, and parent interviews also factor into the ratings. The book includes shopping tips and reviews of selected manufacturers, along with ratings and a section of top picks. At the close of the chapter devoted to high chairs, there is a chart comparing 18 models with ratings for overall quality. Baby Bargains is an excellent baby-gear book, and many readers find the information here more helpful than Consumer Reports.
2.  Consumer Reports Ratings: High Chairs

Editors of Consumer Reports

Apr. 2007
reviews rating In this latest report, the editors at Consumer Reports provide a ratings chart comparing 19 high chairs. High chair ratings are weighted most heavily toward safety and ease of use. Details are provided about testing methods. Although ratings allow readers to compare scores, editors don't specifically choose any high chairs as Best Buys.
3.  Choice.com.au Test: High chairs

Editors of Choice.com.au

June 2007
reviews rating Editors at this Australian website test eleven high chairs for safety and durability. While some models are not widely available in the United States, there is careful and detailed discussion of what features are important and which ones aren't as significant when choosing a high chair. Recommended high chairs include the Cam Campione and Jane Activa, which are not available in the U.S., along with the Chicco Polly and Peg-Perego Prima Pappa Diner, which are.
4.  Which.co.uk High Chairs

Editors of Which.co.uk

Jan. 19, 2007
reviews rating Editors at U.K.-based Which? magazine test 12 high chairs for safety and durability. This article reviews some models not available in the United States, but the detailed explanation of testing methodology, as well as the discussion of different high chair features, is excellent. Among the highly rated high chairs that are available in the U.S. are the Fisher-Price Healthy Care and the Mamas & Papas Café Junior.

5.  Amazon.com High Chairs and Boosters

Contributors to Amazon.com

As of Oct. 2007
reviews rating Because professional review publications are sometimes out-of-date when it comes to high chairs, owner-opinion websites are valuable. The parent-written reviews at Amazon.com are mostly thorough and sometimes cautionary. The trouble with Amazon.com is that it's not easy to see how many readers have rated each chair, which can give a misleading picture. The Fisher-Price Rainforest Healthy Care High Chair has a 4.5-star rating with 91 reviews posted, while some other models might have a 5-star rating with just one review posted. Be sure to click on the model and note number of reviews used in averaging. Among high chairs that get both high ratings and a large number of reviews are the Fisher-Price Healthy Care and Space Saver chairs.
6.  Target.com High Chairs

Contributors to Target.com

As of Oct. 2007
reviews rating Target.com is an increasingly good source for finding owner-written ratings. Site visitors particularly like the Graco Contempo and the Fisher-Price Space Saver high chair. The Chicco Polly gets good reviews for its ease of use and stylish look, but it also has a few negative comments for being hard to clean. The Eddie Bauer Montecito high chair gets uneven remarks for being stylish, as well as mixed scores for functionality. Target.com, while boasting dozens of reviews, also suffers from the same organizational issue as Amazon.com -- readers must click on the item in order to see how many reviews were averaged to get its star rating.
7.  Epinions High Chairs

Contributors to Epinions

As of Oct. 2007
reviews rating While Epinions might not have as many high chair reviews as Amazon.com or Target.com, it's easy to see how many reviews were averaged to give a product its star rating, which can speed up your research process. A downside is that many discontinued chairs are listed here. High chairs can be sorted by price range, rating and brand. The best bet is to narrow your list to a handful of favorites, then see what these parents have to say. The Fisher-Price Healthy Care high chair gets many positive comments, while the Evenflo Envision high chair receives some very critical comments about its durability.

8.  Parenting.com High Chairs

Editors of Parenting.com

Not Dated
reviews rating In this gear guide, Parenting.com highlights six high chairs: Fisher-Price Healthy Care High Chair, Peg-Perego Prima Pappa, Combi Easy Glider, Fisher-Price Ocean Wonders High Chair, Chicco Polly High Chair and Graco Harmony High Chair. The guide also includes The First Years Reclining Feeding Seat and the Safety First Grow With Me Portable Booster. While each pick is identified as a Parenting Editors' top pick or a Mom-Tested choice, we find the two-sentence summaries lacking. In addition, the testing criteria are unclear, and there's no way to really compare the highly rated products shown here.
9.  About.com Guide Picks: Top 9 Highchairs for Babies

Heather Corley

Not Dated
reviews rating Safety is paramount when selecting a high chair, says Heather Corley, About.com's Baby Products Guide. She recommends nine high chairs, based on stability, easy clean up and convenience features. Unfortunately, this high chair guide has not been updated recently, and it's not clear if Corley compared these chairs to others or tested them in any way before choosing to feature them on this list. The Fisher-Price Healthy Care high chair occupies the top spot on the list. (Note that ConsumerSearch is owned by About.com.)
10.  BabyCenter.com Parents' Picks: High Chairs and Booster Seats

Contributors to BabyCenter

As of Oct. 2007
reviews rating At BabyCenter.com, the top vote-getting high chairs are chosen by parents and caregivers who post reviews. We appreciate that on this site, consumers have chosen atypical high chair fare. In fact, the two best-selling items are Boon's modern-looking Flair highchair and the Safety 1st Wooden highchair. Still, it's curious that these two best-selling items feature absolutely no product reviews by users as of the time of this report. Three Fisher-Price High Chairs -- the Healthy Care, Easy Clean and Space Saver -- all receive positive feedback.
11.  Best Baby Products.com High Chairs

Editors of Best Baby Products

Not Dated
reviews rating This site's reviews are largely based on parent/user input without any nods to specific testing methods or explanation as to how which kinds of comments from users were evaluated. The editors offer a top performer in three price ranges, including the Peg-Perego Prima Pappa, the Fisher-Price Healthy Care and the Graco Easy Chair. They also highlight a few other models for good measure. However, a search for more individual reviews leads straight to a website selling high chairs and containing only a few parent reviews. One significant flaw is that this site has not been revised in more than three years.
12.  Consumer Guide.com High Chairs

Editors of ConsumerGuide.com

As of Oct. 2007
reviews rating Based on the number of reviews alone, the Consumer Guide high chair recommendations appear impressive. However, despite offering hundreds of reviews, Consumer Guide doesn't share what criteria, if any, editors use to formulate the site's recommendations. Highlighted products include the Combi Easy Glide High Chair, the Graco Harmony High Chair and the Fisher-Price Healthy Care High Chair, along with several others.
13.  HighChairs.com Best High Chairs Top 10 List

Contributors to HighChairs.com

As of Oct. 2007
reviews rating At HighChairs.com, the parent-written reviews are up-to-date and include many newer models. Most of the reviews are quite brief, however, and don't go into tremendous detail about the products discussed. From Graco's Contempo High Chair and Peg-Perego's Prima Pappa, to Svan's Wooden High Chair and the lesser-known Koala High Chair, the breadth of parent-written reviews is impressive. The reviews provided by the site's editors, however, don't have much bite; these reviews are overwhelmingly and almost suspiciously positive.
14.  The New Parents Guide.com Choosing a Baby High Chair

Editors of TheNewParentsGuide.com

Not Dated
reviews rating The editors of TheNewParentsGuide.com have put together a helpful report on what to look for when selecting a high chair. The report outlines the various types of high chairs and prioritizes safety features, but it stops short of making any recommendations. TheNewParentsGuide.com does have a separate and sizeable review section for high chairs. These "reviews," however, seem to be reworded marketing and sales information taken from the product manufacturers. Each review is positive, and a few even boast that the high chair is the "best you can find in the world."
15.  ModernMom.com 2005 Gear Guide

Editors of Modern Mom

Not Dated
reviews rating The ModernMom.com's gear guide is only marginally helpful. Rather than offering several high chair reviews, the site's editors selected one chair as the best -- the Svan High Chair, which can be used from age six months to six years. While the editors report liking the high chair for its trendy style and lightweight-but-sturdy construction, they also like that it has no sharp edges. Modern Mom's Gear Guide hasn't been updated since 2005.
16.  LilaGuide.com High Chairs

Contributors to Lilaguide

As of Oct. 2007
reviews rating Lilaguide.com is a new feedback site for parents. The site allows parents to review baby gear, but right now, there aren't many comments.
