Strollers
Denise and Alan Fields
7th Edition, 2007
|
|
This excellent book includes buyer's guides and ratings of dozens of types of baby gear. The authors conduct hands-on testing and also interview parents, manufacturers and retailers. Parents posting to Amazon.com say this is the best baby gear book available, with plenty of current info and lots of attitude, including sections aimed at steering consumers away from unnecessary features. The book's online site (www.windsorpeak.com) includes a forum on which parents can rate strollers.

Strollers
Editors of Consumer Reports
Apr. 2007
|
|
Consumer Reports rates eight all-terrain strollers and eight jogging strollers for safety (assessed by measuring stability on an incline), performance (including maneuverability on various terrain and over bumps) and ease of use (by folding and unfolding, adjusting the seat, using the harness and engaging brakes). Consumer Reports is more clinical and measured in its testing, but Baby Bargains factors parent opinion and aesthetics, which are not considered by Consumer Reports. Together, these two reports balance each other very well.

Which.net is comparable to Consumer Reports in the strength of its testing. Editors, ergonomists and parents are all part of the testing process. Because this is a U.K. website, however, most jogging and all-terrain strollers tested aren't available in the United States. The Quinny Speedi SX and the Britax Trekker are rated at Best Buys, but neither are available in the US

Three-wheel strollers
Editors of Choice.com.au
Feb. 2007

|
This Australian consumer magazine tests about a dozen all-terrain and jogging strollers. Most failed tests in some aspect. Four top picks are chosen, but none of those models are available in the US. Editors also tested the Quinny Zapp, finding that it has a tendency to tip when on an incline or when there's any extra weight on the handles. The Jeep Liberty Limited Urban Terrain was judged too bulky to fit in a trunk, and it failed some durability and safety tests. The Valco Runabout Tri-Mode has the lowest ease-of-use scores.

All-Terrain and Jogging Stroller reviews
Editors of BabyGaga.com
As of Dec. 2006
|
|
BabyGaga.com is a website dedicated to rating strollers. Cumulative scores are based on both editorial and parental ratings, with strollers graded according to value, safety, convenience and comfort. The editors here distinguish all-terrain strollers from true joggers. Among all-terrain strollers, the BOB Fitness Strides, Baby Jogger City series and Bugaboo Cameleon are highest rated overall, while the InStep Safari is named the best budget all-terrain stroller. Among jogging strollers, the BOB Sport Utility Stroller and Ironman get the highest scores, along with the Kelty Joyride. For joggers on a budget, the Baby Trend Expedition is deemed an acceptable choice and a good value. This review would rate more highly had the reviews been updated to include 2007 jogging strollers.

Jog Stroller Reviews
Sarah Bowen Shea
2006

In this outdated article, Sarah Bowen Shea profiles three jogging strollers, but models aren’t ranked and it isn’t clear if they’ve been tested in any particular way. The writer does discuss features and how they might be useful for a variety of activities.

Top 10 Jogging Strollers
Jesslyn Bass
Not Dated
|
|
Jesslyn Bass lists ten strollers she considers to be the best for runners, along with a list of features. Strollers are not compared, and it doesn't appear any testing was performed. There's a list of features, and that's it. As a result, we rate this review poorly for credibility. The Baby Jogger Performance Single is top-rated, followed by the BOB Ironman and the Dreamer Design Slingshot RPS. (Note: ConsumerSearch.com is owned by About.com/The New York Times.)

This retail site primarily focuses on jogging strollers, and editors allow parents to contribute reviews. Because of the large number of jogging strollers sold here, JoggingStroller.com is a pretty good place to check for user reviews. Some models only have a couple of comments, and most get relatively high scores, but the individual write-ups can be useful.

This website has some excellent in-depth reviews. Unfortunately, few strollers have yet been covered, and many of these aren’t available in the US. This is one of the few sites we found that evaluates Quinny strollers in depth, including the Quinny Zapp (an "enjoyable" stroller). The Mountain Buggy Urban Single is the highest-rated jogger, described as "a pleasure to use."

BabyCenter.com is mainly a retail site, but parents are invited to rate products. Most only receive a few reviews and ratings, and some don't have any comments, but if you're looking for parent-written reviews on jogging strollers, this is a good place to try.

Amazon.com is another good place to check for user reviews. From the average scores, it's hard to tell which might be favorites, but the individual write-ups are often helpful. Like most user-review websites, Amazon.com is most helpful once you've narrowed your choice to a few jogging strollers.

He's Having a Baby – and Needs a Stroller Pronto
Greg Allen
Oct. 25, 2005
|
|
This new dad evaluates strollers based on aesthetics and design, also paying attention to performance, portability, comfort, safety, extras, value and fit. Allen likes the Phil & Ted’s e3 Buggy (discontinued), saying its features and riding style are perfect for urban parents, and the Bugaboo Cameleon, citing its one-handed driving capability and longer wheel base. Only this review’s age keeps it from receiving a higher ranking.

Mumsnet.com members are invited to rate strollers according to nine criteria. Results are averaged, and each stroller is given an overall rating along with a short editorial summary. Unfortunately, we can't tell if the ratings are based on one parent review or dozens (the site doesn't tell us). Among jogging strollers, the Mountain Buggy Urban Single receives the site’s highest rating.

The Lila Guide is part of a family of websites that include TheNest.com (for newlyweds) and TheKnot.com (for those getting married). While there aren’t a lot of jogging stroller reviews at this point, this might turn out to be a good review source in the future.

If you're into strollers, you'll enjoy this blog, which accompanies a retail site. Along with reviews, this is a good place for news on new and upcoming strollers, including jogging strollers and all-terrain strollers. Right now, there isn't much here, but if it's kept up to date, this promises to be a fun blog.
