Maclaren Techno XT Review

(*est. $280)

This page is part of a larger ConsumerSearch report on Umbrella Strollers which includes more reviews, analysis and a summary of the top-rated models.

What the reviewers like:
The Maclaren Techno XT is said to be a reliable, lightweight, and easy-to-use stroller, and its fully reclining seat (a rarity in umbrella strollers) means it can be used by newborns (who need to lie totally flat until neck muscles develop).

What the reviewers don't like:
Although reviewers are fans of Maclaren strollers in general, the Techno XT isn't the best value in the lineup, and at this price point, a lot of other strollers are worth consideration.

Maclaren Techno XT review highlights

At about 15 pounds, the Maclaren Techno XT stroller is said to be convenient and easy to use, and its fully reclining seat makes it appropriate for newborns (who need to lie flat). But we found more than a few complaints about an insufficiently padded seat, a too-small basket, and a tendency to tip over when empty. The Maclaren Triumph (*est. $150) and Maclaren Quest (*est. $200) are better values, although neither has a fully-reclining seat. For a little more, you could also consider the Inglesina Zippy (*est. $330), a better rated 17-pound stroller that's more plush than the Techno XT.

The Maclaren Techno XT is the subject of a fair amount of reviews, ranging from professional testers at Consumer Reports magazine and Baby-Gaga.com to parents contributing detailed reports to Baby World and Baby Centre (both British websites) and, in the U.S., Epinions and Amazon.com. Owners and experts basically have good things to say about the Maclaren Techno XT umbrella stroller, with some serious reservations.

About two dozen parents contribute reviews of the Maclaren Techno XT to this British website. Most of them rave about it, but a few wonder if they've bought a "duff" unit, complaining of flimsiness, lack of comfort for riders, and a disappointing basket.

4. BabyCenter.com

It's not clear how many parents are responsible for the blurbs posted here, but they're very useful. As at other sites, the main complaints about the Techno XT (which receives high marks overall) are its small basket and tendency to tip when empty.

The Techno XT receives near-perfect grades from the handful of parents posting here; the only complaints are about a "useless" sunshade and a too-small basket.
