1.  Baby Bargains Strollers

Denise and Alan Fields

7th Edition, 2007
reviews rating This excellent book includes buyer's guides and ratings on dozens of types of baby gear. The authors say they conduct hands-on testing and conduct parent, manufacturer and retailer interviews before reaching conclusions. Parents posting to Amazon.com say this is the best baby-gear book available, with plenty of current info and lots of attitude, including sections aimed at steering consumers away from unnecessary features.

2.  Amazon.com Lightweight Strollers

Contributors to Amazon.com

As of June 2007
reviews rating Once you've narrowed your choice to a few models, sites like Amazon.com are worth a visit to peruse owner ratings. One problem, however, is that every time the manufacturer changes fabric colors, reviews of last year's models are lost, even if the stroller is functionally identical. Still, at least the existing user reviews are current and insightful. Early reviews for the Zooper Salsa are mixed, but the Hula and Twist do a little better. The Peg-Perego Pliko P3 is a longtime favorite. Chicco strollers like the Caddy and C5 are said to be a good value.
3.  Consumer Reports Strollers

Editors of Consumer Reports

Apr. 2007
reviews rating Consumer Reports rates a handful of strollers for handling, durability, safety and value, and supplies valuable information about how to choose a stroller based on your lifestyle and budget. Still, the writeups at Baby Bargains are far more detailed, cover a wider range of stroller brands and take into consideration the reactions of real people to the strollers they use. Consumer Reports only covers four umbrella strollers.
4.  Which.co.uk Pushchairs

Editors of Which.net

May 3, 2007
reviews rating Which.net is the UK counterpart to Consumer Reports. Editors, ergonomists and parents all participate in stroller tests, the methodology of which is very detailed. Since this is a UK website, most strollers aren't available in the United States. The Maclaren Quest, Maclaren Triumph and Silver Cross POP are three umbrella strollers that receive high ratings from editors and parents.
5.  Choice.com.au Test: Four-wheel Layback Strollers

Editors of Choice.co.uk

Apr. 2006
reviews rating Australia's answer to Consumer Reports carefully tests ten strollers for durability, ease of use and safety specifications. However, the strollers range from full-featured to lightweight. The Maclaren Vogue is the top pick among umbrella strollers, but this model has been discontinued in the U.S. We expect Choice will soon update their testing.
6.  Baby-Gaga.com Reviews: Umbrella Strollers

Editors of Baby-Gaga.com

As of July 2007
reviews rating Baby-Gaga.com's stroller reviews combine insights from editors and parents. Although it's not clear how many parents were interviewed, the writeups are balanced, detailed and critical. Each stroller is graded according to value, safety, convenience and comfort. The top-rated umbrella stroller here is the Maclaren Triumph, which receives a perfect score. Other highly rated strollers included the Maclaren Volo and Inglesina Swift. The Chicco London and Combi Savvy Soho are criticized for poor durability. While these reviews are excellent, they are now very out of date, with no coverage of any of the newest umbrella strollers.
7.  BabyWorld.co.uk On test: Lightweight Buggies

Editors of BabyWorld.co.uk

Not Dated
reviews rating This U.K.-based website is part magazine, part online store. The handful of baby-gear tests are detailed and critical, but only six products are included in each comparison. In this test of lightweight strollers, only one of the umbrella strollers is available in the U.S., but the Maclaren Quest Mod is also the top-rated stroller in this test.
8.  StrollersandPrams.com Stroller Reviews

Editors of StrollersandPrams.com

As of July 2007
reviews rating A person identified only as "Annabel" runs this enthusiast site. A few strollers receive in-depth, well-documented reviews (based on four weeks of use) that generally include photographs, and user forums allow readers to chime in. Since this site is based in the UK, many of the strollers it covers aren't available in the U.S. The Maclaren Quest Sport is the only umbrella stroller that gets a review.

9.  About.com Baby Products – Top 10 Lightweight Baby Strollers

Heather Corley

As of Feb. 18, 2005
reviews rating Heather Corley, About.com's Baby Product Guide, lists her favorite lightweight strollers. The Maclaren Volo, Combi Savvy Soho and Peg-Perego Aria MT top the list. There's no indication that Corley performed any testing. Instead, strollers are chosen for their features and weight. This list has not been updated since 2005, so the coverage here is woefully out of date. (Note: ConsumerSearch is owned by About.com/The New York Times.)
10.  About.com Maclaren Volo Stroller

Robin Elise Weiss

Not Dated
reviews rating The About.com Guide to Pregnancy reviews a couple of strollers. While each stroller gets a rating and the writeups are based on personal testing, the strollers aren't compared to others, and the reviews of the Maclaren Volo and Maclaren Triumph are not very critical. Still the review are based on hands-on evaluation.
11.  Fit Pregnancy Absolute Basics

Sarah Bowen Shea

Not Dated
reviews rating This article recommends a wide range of products by age group. It lists the Maclaren Volo Stroller as the perfect lightweight stroller, as well as the Chicco Caddy Umbrella. However, it doesn't appear that these models were tested or even examined in person, and this article is now very old.
12.  Consumer Guide.com Convenience/Umbrella Strollers

Editors of ConsumerGuide.com

As of July 2007
reviews rating This is essentially just a giant list of strollers with retailer links, and although Consumer Guide suggests these models are reviewed or rated, we could find nothing of the sort except for one very old writeup for the Chicco London, written in 2003.
13.  BabyCenter.com Parent Picks

Contributors to BabyCenter.com

As of June 2007
reviews rating BabyCenter.com is primarily a retail site, but there are some interesting articles and features thrown into the mix. This site has a parent rating system, so some models receive reviews. Most, however, aren't reviewed by more than one or two parents, not enough to be able to gauge a consensus.
14.  Mumsnet.com Lightweight Buggies

Editors of MumsNet.com

Nov. 2005
reviews rating MumsNet.com members are invited to rate strollers according to nine criteria. Results are averaged, and each stroller is given an overall rating along with a short editorial summary. Unfortunately, we can't tell if the ratings here are based on one parent review or dozens, and the reviews are now very outdated.
15.  Epinions Umbrella Strollers

Contributors to Epinions

As of July 2007
reviews rating Epinions is a good place to find owner ratings once you've narrowed down your choices. However, there aren't as many reviews for individual strollers here as at Amazon.com, and most strollers don't have any reviews at all.
16.  LilaGuide.com Umbrella Strollers

Contributors to LilaGuide.com

As of July 2007
reviews rating The Lila Guide is part of a family of websites that include TheNest.com (for newlyweds) and TheKnot.com (for those getting married). This site launched in spring 2007, and there's not an abundance of reviews posted, but there might be someday. Only the Peg-Perego P3 has a decent number of reviews among umbrella strollers.
