IQAir HealthPro Review

(*est. $700) Compare Prices

This page is part of a larger ConsumerSearch report on Air Purifiers which includes more reviews, analysis and a summary of the top-rated models.

What the reviewers like:
The IQAir HealthPro has a large coverage area and, in tests, removes a higher percentage of allergens than comparable air purifiers. The HealthPro has racked up an impressive number of endorsements from medical groups as well, and it doesn't produce any ozone as a byproduct.

What the reviewers don’t like:
There are some complaints about the HealthPro’s price, as well as its sound level at the highest speed setting. In tests, reviewers point to a handful of other air purifiers that perform about as well for about half as much.

IQAir HealthPro review highlights

Oddly -- and frustratingly -- the IQAir HealthPro is recommended by Air-Purifiers-America.com on the basis of test results in a small room, but similar tests by Consumer Reports place the HealthPro in the lower third of a pack of 36. Based on what other reviewers say, though, it seems that Air-Purifiers-America.com is closer to the mark. Experts praise the HEPA-filtering HealthPro for its large coverage area (1,000 square feet, but it will work better in smaller rooms) and efficiency at removing particles, and say it’s the best air purifier for people with severe allergies. However, a few owners and experts point out that this air purifier can be loud on its highest speed setting, and it’s also expensive: The Alen A350 (*est. $400) performs nearly as well I tests at Air-Purifiers-America.com for half the price.

The IQAir HealthPro has been evaluated by the four best sources for air purifier reviews: Consumer Reports and Air-Purifiers-America.com, which both perform detailed testing (though in this case with contradictory results), and it's also reviewed at the enthusiast site Air-Purifier-Power.com, and AllergyBuyersClub.com, a retailer that points out the pluses and minuses of the products it sells. The HealthPro is also reviewed by ConsumerGuide.com, and receives a handful of posts from owners at Epinions.

Air Purifiers
Editors of Consumer Reports
Nov. 2007

The IQAir HealthPro is among the 36 air purifiers tested by Consumer Reports in its November 2007 review. By injecting allergens into a test chamber, then measuring air purifier performance at several time intervals on both high and low speeds, editors test models for dust and smoke removal, ozone emission and noise level. Interestingly, Consumer Reports’ findings on the IQAir are somewhat different than those in other reviews.

2. AirPurifiers America.com
Air Purifier Test Results
Editors of Air-Purifiers-America.com

Air-Purifiers-America.com is one of the few sources that actually tests and compares air purifiers. Models are tested in a small room to represent a typical office, and air purifiers are measured for performance on high and low speeds. Noise level and ozone emission is also evaluated. The IQAir HealthPro scores well for coverage area and percentage of particles removed, but editors say it’s slightly noisier than air purifiers by Alen and BlueAir.

3. Allergy Buyers Club.com
IQAir Purifiers -- HealthPro Series
Editors of AllergyBuyersClub.com

AllergyBuyersClub.com -- which presents the pluses and minuses of the products it sells -- calls the IQAir HealthPro "a king among princes," saying that in tests "virtually nothing escapes its hyper-HEPA filter." However, the editors point out that the HealthPro is a bit noisy compared to other air purifiers. Testing isn't well defined, however; it's unclear exactly how editors evaluate air purifiers.

4. Air-Purifier-Power.com
My Air Purifier: IQAir
Ed Sherbenou

Reviewer Ed Sherbenou knows air purifiers -- his site analyzes numerous models in depth -- so his rave about the IQAir HealthPro (he owns the slightly more expensive Plus model) carries particular weight. He says this machine came through when he and his wife moved to a much different climate in Houston. Sherbenou also evaluates dozens of other air purifiers based on their mechanics, component quality and build quality, but he does not conduct head-to-head performance tests.

5. Consumer Guide.com
Expert Review: IQAir Healthpro Air Purifier
Editors of ConsumerGuide.com
28-Jun-05

It’s not clear if editors at ConsumerGuide.com actually tested the IQAir Healthpro, but this rave agrees with what other sources say, praising the HealthPro’s large coverage area and particle-catching efficiency.

6. Epinions
IQAir HealthPro Air Purifier Review
Contributors to Epinions

The handful of owners posting at Epinions mostly have good things to say about the IQAir HealthPro’s benefits to allergy sufferers. There is one complaint about its price/performance ratio and another says it’s as noisy as an air conditioner at its highest speed.
