Vornado AQS35 Review

(*est. $200)

This page is part of a larger ConsumerSearch report on Air Purifiers which includes more reviews, analysis and a summary of the top-rated models.

What the reviewers like:
The Vornado AQS35 finishes pretty well in one major comparative test of air cleaners. Owners posting to user-review sites are mostly enthusiastic about this machine.

What the reviewers don’t like:
Apart from one user who says his Vornado melted and burned after two years of use, the only negative comment we could find concerned this machine’s lack of carbon VOC filters (which impedes its ability to remove odors and chemicals). And its particle removal performance, while better than some, isn't as good as some other air purifiers in the same price range.

Vornado AQS35 review highlights

The Vornado AQS35 is a good performer in its price range, though its performance is still nowhere near the slightly more expensive Whirlpool AP45030 (*est. $200) and Honeywell Enviracaire 50250 (*est. $180) in one comparison test. Owners posting to Amazon.com have mostly good things to say about the Vornado air purifier (save for one user who says his Vornado melted and burned two years after he bought it). Air-Purifier-Power.com gives the Vornado air purifier a reasonably upbeat review, criticizing only its lack of carbon VOC filtering (which makes it relatively ineffective for odors or chemicals). This air cleaner works best in rooms of about 250 square feet.

The Vornado AQS35 is reviewed in depth by two reliable sources: Consumer Reports, which includes this air purifier in its November 2007 roundup, and Air-Purifier-Power.com, which critically examines this machine’s specs and performance. We also found a good number of comments from owners on Amazon.com, as well as a suspiciously positive "review" that pops up on a number of websites. (Although Vornado no longer manufactures the AQS35, it’s still available from various retailers; the most current Vornado model is the AQS15, which has yet to garner a significant number of reviews.)

Reviewer Ed Sherbenou doesn’t actually test the Vornado AQS35, but he describes its features in depth. His main complaint about this air purifier is its lack of carbon VOC filtration, which makes it relatively ineffective at removing odors and chemicals.

3. Amazon.com

Contributors to Amazon.com

Most of the two dozen owners posting at Amazon.com have good things to say about the Vornado AQS35; the only pan is from a user who says his machine melted and caught fire two years after he purchased it.

Vornado AQS35 Air Purifier Review
Jason Uvios

We don’t include this article because it’s helpful, but because it illustrates how a single, suspiciously positive "review" of a product can disseminate across dozens of websites. The Vornado AQS35, reviewer Jason Uvios says, "cannot be compared with regular, run-of-the-mill air purifiers," which is simply untrue.
