Whirlpool Whispure 45030R Review

(*est. $250)

This page is part of a larger ConsumerSearch report on Air Purifiers which includes more reviews, analysis and a summary of the top-rated models.

What the reviewers like:
In tests, the Whirlpool Whispure AP45030 does an above-average job filtering allergens from air. Experts say this machine is nothing special to look at, but it does its job well and quietly.

What the reviewers don’t like:
Replacing the Whirlpool Whispure 450’s filters can be an expensive proposition (about $100 per year), and it’s not much to look at.

Whirlpool Whispure 45030R review highlights

Reviewers agree that the Whirlpool Whispure 450 is a good air purifier for its price range, although the Whirlpool Whispure AP51030 (*est. $300) is better still. The Whispure 450 finished near the top in one major comparative test, with above-average scores for dust and smoke removal at the high speed setting, and Air-Purifier-Power.com says it "provides a lot of plain vanilla HEPA air purifier for a low price." However, AllergyBuyersClub.com says this isn’t the best choice for people with multiple chemical sensitivities, and its replacement filters can be expensive -- about $100 per year. This purifier works best in rooms of about 400 square feet (and preferably much smaller).

The Whirlpool Whispure 450 (which is also sold as the Whirlpool AP45030R) is reviewed by three solid sources, including Consumer Reports, which tests the Whispure alongside 35 other air purifiers in its most recent (November 2007) roundup. Air-Purifier-Power.com doesn't actually test this air purifier but does a good job detailing its pluses and minuses. Unfortunately, this Whispure air purifier has yet to attract a significant amount of owner attention at sites such as Amazon.com or Epinions.

Nov. 2007

The Whirlpool Whispure AP45030R is one of 36 air purifiers tested in the latest roundup by Consumer Reports (November 2007). Models are tested in an empty test chamber that's been injected with a measured amount of particles. Then air purifiers are tested in their ability to clear the air while running on high speed and low speed. Noise is also evaluated.

Whirlpool AP45030R: "Hot Rod Lincoln"
Ed Sherbenou

Reviewer Ed Sherbenou doesn’t actually test the Whirlpool Whispure 450, but he says it "provides a lot of plain vanilla HEPA air purifier for a low price." He does note, though, that the cost of replacement pre-filters and HEPA filters can amount to $100 per year. Sherbenou gives the Whispure 450 an 80 rating out of 100. Note that Sherbenou doesn't actually lab test this air purifier.
