Consumer Reports >> Details/Subscribe	Dehumidifiers Editors of Consumer Reports June 2008		In this report, 17 dehumidifiers in a wide size range are put through extensive laboratory testing and rated for water removal, humidistat accuracy, energy efficiency and noise level. This excellent, clearly written report culminates in a large ratings chart. This is the best, most recent test we found of dehumidifiers.

2. Amazon.com	Dehumidifiers Contributors to Amazon.com As of June 2007		Amazon.com is the best source of consumer-written reviews for dehumidifiers. Many models receive dozens of owner-written ratings. Soleus dehumidifiers receive a large number of reviews (over a hundred for several models) and although most are positive, we found some customer-service horror stories. The Haier 30-Pint Mechanical Dehumidifier earns some raves. The small Eva-Dry EDV-1100 Electric Petite Dehumidifier earns mostly praise for its overall functionality as a small-capacity unit. Still, this model did have several comments complaining about its durability, despite earning nearly 80 good reviews. Although not comprehensive, these reviews are helpful for narrowing the field and determining durability.

3. Walmart.com	Dehumidifiers Contributors to Walmart.com As of June 2008		Though Walmart.com only stocks a few dehumidifiers, we did find dozens of reviews here. The user-written reviews have a good variety of comments and criticism. The Windchaser Compact Dehumidifier earns an average of 4 stars overall but receives some very uneven comments criticizing its durability. The GoldStar 50 Pint Dehumidifier with Electronic Controls also earns 4 stars overall, but was often marked down by users who noticed it had become louder and less effective over time.
4. Good Housekeeping.com	Dehumidifiers Editors of GH on TV Not Dated		In this undated video-on-demand segment available at GoodHousekeeping.com, engineers for the Good Housekeeping Institute test several dehumidifiers for effectiveness, noise level and overall usability. The researchers find that the Kenmore 70-Pint Dehumidifier performs the best overall, with the GoldStar DH4010B (discontinued) coming in a close second. However, editors don't tell us which models don't make the cut, and this review is old enough that one of the recommended models has been discontinued.

5. Allergy Buyers Club.com	Home Dehumidifiers – Comparisons, Ratings, Reviews Editors of AllergyBuyersClub.com As of June 2008		Allergy Buyers Club sells a variety of dehumidifiers catering to the allergy market. The highest-rated home dehumidifiers are -- coincidentally -- the most expensive, though the explanations for their 5-star reviews are really never fully explained and there are no critical, detailed comparisons. Machines rated highly here are the Santa Fe Rx Whole Home Dehumidifier and the Comfort-Aire 130 Whole House Dehumidifer, among other high-priced units.
6. ENERGYSTAR.gov	Energy Star Labeled Dehumidifiers U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Department of Energy As of June 2008		This website lists all dehumidifiers that are Energy Star certified, along with some tips on what to look for and consider when shopping for a dehumidifier. Comparisons can be made as to which model is more energy efficient, though this website does not recommend specific models.
7. Sears.com	Dehumidifiers Editors of Sears.com As of June 2008		Sears has recently begun letting site visitors write reviews and ratings for the dehumidifiers it sells. Since no other retailer sells Kenmore models, this is the best place to find owner-written reviews on Kenmore dehumidifiers. There are a great number of negative reviews here, including some on models highly rated by professionals elsewhere. They do help to illustrate some issues that may arise over time.
8. Consumer Guide.com	Dehumidifiers Editors of ConsumerGuide.com As of June 2008		Consumer Guide gives dehumidifiers a rating for performance, but there is no evidence that any testing has actually been performed on these models. Only the Kenmore 70-Pint Dehumidifier is singled out as a Best Buy.
9. Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers	Directory of Certified Dehumidifiers Editors of AHAM Jan. 2005		AHAM is a trade association that offers membership to manufacturers. This directory lists the manufacturers who voluntarily participate in AHAM's independent testing program to certify product claims for water removal. A chart lists the pints of water removed daily and the energy factor of the dehumidifiers. Dozens of models from most of the major manufacturers are listed here. No ratings are included at all. Rather, this is a helpful site for comparing water removal and Energy Star ratings. It's also disappointing that the report directory doesn't seem to have been updated in more than three years.
10. Epinions	Dehumidifiers Contributors to Epinions As of June 2008		Epinions lists nearly 300 dehumidifiers, although many of them are discontinued units. Most models do not receive any reviews at all, and those that are reviewed usually have less than six comments.
11. The Natural Handyman	Choosing and Using Dehumidifiers To Dry Out Your Home Editors of The Natural Handyman Not Dated		This helpful article explains how dehumidifiers work and includes tips on sizing. There are no specific product reviews or testing.
