Shop-Vac 925-63-10 Tool-Start Review

(*est. $250) Compare Prices

This page is part of a larger ConsumerSearch report on Shop Vacs which includes more reviews, analysis and a summary of the top-rated models.

What reviewers like:
The Shop-Vac 925-63-10 starts when the tool plugged into it starts, then delays shut-off for a few seconds after the tool stops to clear the hose. The tank has a drain for emptying liquids.

What reviewers don't like:
Reviews note that the Shop-Vac 925-63-10’s tool outlet is rated at just 8 amps, which limits its dust-extraction use to less powerful tools. Also, this model can only vacuum; it can't be used as a blower. Reviewers say its standard-diameter hose clogs too easily, and its 12-foot length is a bit short. This unit’s suction receives mixed reviews, especially in comparison tests with other tool-triggered shop vacs. The warranty is for only one year.

Shop-Vac 925-63-10 Tool-Start review highlights

The 12-gallon Shop-Vac 925-63-10 shop vac is a budget version of more expensive pro-level shop vacs designed to collect sawdust from portable sanders and other small power tools. It comes with an 8-amp outlet, turning itself on and off with any tool plugged into it. This is the least expensive shop vac with this feature, but the 10-gallon Porter-Cable 7812 (*est. $270) gets much better reviews. Both shop vacs carry a one-year warranty, but the Porter-Cable can collect dust from tools up to 15 amps (on a 20-amp circuit).

Tool Test: Wet-Dry Vacuums
Chris Kulczycki
Apr. 2004

Woodworker Chris Kulczycki puts nine relatively inexpensive shop vacs through torture tests in a workshop environment, sucking up nails, siphoning a bucket of water and cleaning up fine dust. The author likes the tool caddy on the Shop-Vac 925-63-10, but it's the only model that couldn't empty the bucket of nails, screws and similar hardware, because the hose tends to accumulate debris in its bends.

Contributors to Amazon.com

At the time of this report, only six owners have reviewed the Shop-Vac 925-63-10, giving it a below-average rating compared with most shop vacs sold here. However, most of the reviews are quiet positive; the average is brought down by a negative review from a user who doesn't like the delay in auto-shutoff after a power tool is turned off. (Tool-activated shop vacs are designed with this delay, however, so as to clear the hose between uses.) Most users praise this shop vac for excellent performance; one review recommends equipping it with a HEPA filter and fine-dust bag.
