Shop-Vac Hangup Mini 201-14-00 Review

(*est. $50) Compare Prices

This page is part of a larger ConsumerSearch report on Shop Vacs which includes more reviews, analysis and a summary of the top-rated models.

What the reviewers like:
This shop vac hangs on the wall, but its five-pound weight makes it useful for portable, hand held use as well. Owners say this small model has plenty of suction even though it' powered by only a one-hp motor.

What the reviewers don't like:
The 1-gallon Shop Vac Hang-Up Mini doesn't take a dust bag, so emptying it is a dusty chore. It uses standard Shop-Vac brand foam and paper filters, so cleaning those is messy too. The 6-foot cord means that carrying it around requires an extension cord.

Shop-Vac Hangup Mini 201-14-00 review highlights

This tiny shop-vac gets good marks for suction and portability, but owners report that emptying it is a messy task. No dust bag is available. If you're just looking for a small, lightweight shop vac that's easy to carry around, owners give higher average ratings to the 1.5-gallon Shop-Vac All-Around 971-02-00 (*est. $55), whose dust bags make emptying more pleasant. For even better pickup from a wall-hung shop vac, reviews recommend the quieter 5-gallon Ridgid WD5500 (*est. $100).

The 1-gallon Shop-Vac Hangup Mini 201-14-00 isn't included in Consumer Reports' recent comparison tests of shop vacs, which covers miniature shop vacs down to 2-gallon size. We did find owner-written reviews of this model at Amazon.com. Jeff Gedgaud reviews this wall-hung shop vac in even greater detail, and owners review an earlier 1-gallon model at Epinions.com.

Jeff Gedgaud
Jan. 2007

This recent review evaluates the Shop-Vac Hangup Mini 201-14-00 based on the author's own experiences. He's reviewing the model that comes with a six-foot cord because it's easier to find, saying that an inexpensive extension cord lets him carry the 5-pound portable around the house with ease. (He notes that the same shop vac is also made with an 18-foot cord.) He added a shoulder strap to make carrying it around easier, and his review includes photos to show how to do this. He doesn't test this shop vac for wet pickup, but for ordinary cleaning finds the suction quite adequate.

About a dozen owners review an earlier 1-gallon, 1-hp portable Shop-Vac model here, giving it a near-perfect average rating. Owners love the light-weight portability of these tiny shop vacs, and say they have good suction for their size. There are some complaints about the short power cord.
