1.  Consumer Reports Blenders to quench a summer thirst

Editors of Consumer Reports

June 2007
reviews rating For this report, Consumer Reports' team of testers spent hours crushing ice, preparing frozen drinks, blending smoothies and pureeing vegetables in 31 blenders. Editors conclude that more money doesn't necessarily buy you a better blender. In addition to blender ratings, there's a sidebar article here on multifunction and stick blenders. While blender reviews at Cook's Illustrated are more in depth and detailed, no other reviewer tests as many models as Consumer Reports.
2.  Cook’s Illustrated Sizing Up Souped-Up Blenders

Editors of Cook's Illustrated

July/Aug. 2006
reviews rating The L'Equip R.P.M. blender whizzed its way to the top in rigorous testing at Cook's Illustrated. Editors say that it "excelled at every task except peanut butter, and did so in less time than most." The Braun PowerMax MX2050 placed second -- at half the price or less than the other eight blenders tested. The Waring 2-Speed MegaMix, the Vita-Mix 5000 and the KitchenAid Pro Line Chef's Blender round out the list of recommended blenders. Poor performance drags the Emerilware blender to the bottom of the heap. Although editors test only nine blenders, this review is more in-depth and detailed than the ratings chart at Consumer Reports.

3.  Cook’s Illustrated Inexpensive Blenders

Editors of Cook's Illustrated

June 2005
reviews rating Cook's Illustrated's testers prepared broccoli soup, ice-filled smoothies and pesto in nine blenders priced at less than $50. The Braun PowerMax MX2050 earns the editors' highest rating. Among currently available models, the Oster Classic Beehive 4119 and Oster 12-Speed Osterizer 6663 also win praise. The Farberware Special Select 10-Speed Blender FSB100 and Proctor Silex 8-Speed Blender 5717R8 both rank near the bottom. While testing here is objective and thorough, this report is now outdated, and some of the tested blenders are discontinued.
4.  The Wall Street Journal Blenders Enter the Ice Age

Charles Passy

June 22, 2007
reviews rating In this article, Charles Passy covers five blenders with special ice-crushing features, testing their ability to make frozen drinks. The KitchenAid Five-Speed Custom Blender is rated best overall, with power, practicality (an easy-pour and shatterproof polycarbonate jar) and style (including several color options). The Cuisinart Bar Blender CBT-500 is named the best value, but the wide-mouth glass jar made pouring a challenge.

5.  Good Housekeeping.com The Best Blenders

Editors of Good Housekeeping

July 2007
reviews rating Good Housekeeping's editors test 16 blenders and provide brief reviews of the four top performers. However, they don’t detail their testing procedures or reveal which blenders did not make the cut. The Braun Power Max MX2050 is a no-frills blender, but it performed the best in testing, is relatively quiet and has the largest capacity of the top four. The Cuisinart Smart Power 7-Speed Electronic Blender, The Oster 10 Speed blender and the Hamilton Beach Wave Station Plus are the other picks. We'd rate this review more highly if editors revealed how they tested, as well as which blenders didn't make the cut (and why).
6.  Which.co.uk Jug Blenders

Editors of Which.co.uk

Apr. 2006
reviews rating Editors of the UK-based Which? magazine test 19 blenders for quality and durability. They prepare mayonnaise, purees, shakes and smoothies in each blender. Most of the blenders here are not available in the United States, but the KitchenAid Ultra Power 5-Speed blender is rated a best buy. Editors say its soft-start and pulse features make a "curious combination, as you have to select the function you want to pulse on," but they also say that the Ultra Power is easy to use and does an excellent job at all liquifying.
7.  Vegetarian Times Mix It Up

Anne Harrington

Aug. 2002
reviews rating In this outdated article, Anne Harrington tests five popular blenders that range widely in price. She crushes ice, makes smoothies and purees, and blends cooked beans. Harrington writes that the Vita-Mix Super 5000 is "great for difficult jobs." The Cuisinart SmartPower 7-Speed and KitchenAid KSB5 earn Harrington's praise for their solid performance and versatility. Although very old, this review does cover blenders that are still available, and the testing is sound.
8.  Amazon.com Blenders

Contributors to Amazon.com

As of Aug. 2007
reviews rating Amazon.com is an excellent source for owner-written ratings of blenders. This is where we've catalogued the most ongoing problems with the Braun PowerMax MX2050 blender, whose plastic teeth frequently break, according to reports. Owners appreciate the Oster 2-Speed Beehive Chrome Blender's ice-crushing ability and retro styling, though several report that the motor is loud.
9.  Epinions Blenders

Contributors to Epinions

As of Aug. 2007
reviews rating Epinions is another good place for reading owner-written reviews of blenders. Interestingly, most blenders receive mixed reviews (including the Braun PowerMax 2050 and Cuisinart SmartPower Premier CBT-500). Better-rated blenders include the Vita-Mix 5000 and the Oster Beehive blender.

10.  Money.com A Crush of Powerful Blenders

Stephanie D. Smith

July 2004
reviews rating This short article highlights three models, but testing details are few, and Stephanie Smith doesn't reveal how many models she tested. The Oster Contemporary Classic Beehive Blender is her budget pick. The KitchenAid KSB5 is rated more highly and the Cuisinart CBT 500 is rated at the top of this review.
11.  About.com Blender Reviews

Colleen Graham

Not Dated
reviews rating There are blender reviews scattered across at least three areas on the About.com website, but the two reviews here are the only write-ups in which it appears the blenders were actually tested. The About.com Guide to Cocktails, Colleen Graham, tests the Waring Pro Bar Blender in the context of making drinks. For that purpose, she says it's a champ, but with only one speed option, it isn't really appropriate for general use. The TailGator blender is also a lot of fun. No other blenders are tested or rated.
12.  Cook’s Illustrated Putting the Vita-Mix to the Test

Editors of Cook's Illustrated

May 2002
reviews rating This article pits the pricey Vita-Mix 5000 against a cheaper Osterizer blender. The Vita-Mix easily grinds peanuts into peanut butter, while the Osterizer's motor sputters and stops. Both blenders do a fine job of chopping up breadcrumbs. Although outdated, the testing conducted here is still useful since the Vita-Mix 5000 is still available.
13.  Cook’s Illustrated Magic Bullet

Editors of Cook's Illustrated

June 2005
reviews rating After a battery of 12 tests, the editors find that the Magic Bullet performs well only when grinding dry items. Also, they note that storing all the unit’s 23 pieces is difficult and that the Magic Bullet makes regular blenders seem quiet.
14.  Good Housekeeping.com Infomercial Road Test

Editors of Good Housekeeping

July 2004
reviews rating Editors review the Magic Bullet blender, sold primarily on TV. Commercials boast that this small blender can do just about anything, but Good Housekeeping's tests prove otherwise.

15.  Cooking.com Recommended Bar Blenders

Contributors to Cooking.com

As of Sept. 2007
reviews rating Owners posting to this site give blenders mostly favorable reviews. However, the feedback offered could be helpful when you have narrowed down your blender choices. Most users are cooking enthusiasts. There aren't as many reviews here as at Epinions or Amazon.com.
16.  About.com Blenders & Processors Resources & Information

Mariette Mifflin

Not Dated
reviews rating Mariette Mifflin reviews two blenders, the Osterizer 12-speed and the Tribest PB200 Personal Blender and Grinder. Although it appears that she actually tested the products rather than regurgitating the manufacturers' descriptions, her comments are brief, and no other blenders seem to have been tested for comparison.
17.  Consumer Guide.com Blenders

Editors of Consumer Guide

As of Aug. 2007
reviews rating Consumer Guide’s recent reviews offer detailed descriptions of features. Editors seem to have tried the blenders, and they offer some comments and even criticisms of how they function. However, 23 of the 35 blenders are named a "Best Buy," and the reviews are almost entirely positive.
