What the Reviewers Like:
Owners of the Oster 5838 ExpressBake like the pizza-dough setting and the relatively large viewing window. Many owners call the Oster 5838 a good starter bread machine. What the Reviewers Don't Like: Although the Oster ExpressBake has a dough/pasta setting, you cannot use the timer to hold dough. We read a number of complaints about durability. Ingredients sometimes stick to the corners of the tall loaf pan, say owners. Oster 5838 ExpressBake review highlights Reviews are mixed for the Oster 5838 ExpressBake bread machine. Reviews say the Oster breadmaker makes generally good bread, but occasionally chokes on raisins and other heavy ingredients. We read several accounts of brick-like and sunken loaves at Amazon.com. Owners say you'll have to experiment with the amounts of liquid and yeast to get your loaves to turn out right. For the money, we find better reviews for the inexpensive Sunbeam 5891 (*est. $50). The Oster 5838 ExpressBake is one of six bread machines reviewed at BreadInfo.com, a website for baking enthusiasts. It has accumulated more than 60 owner-written reviews at Amazon.com and a dozen reviews at Epinions, but we haven't seen it included in professional testing at Consumer Reports or Good Housekeeping.
