Owners and experts agree that the Braun KSM2 is a good basic blade coffee grinder. Owners like its powerful motor, small footprint and integrated cord storage. Testers at Cook's Illustrated say that it grinds on the fine side and generates a fair amount of coffee dust, but owners don't seem to mind. This grinder has a capacity of 9 tablespoons. An alternative is the Krups Fast Touch 203 (*est. $20), a similar coffee grinder that in tests produces less coffee dust.

Cook's Illustrated tests ten under-$50 coffee grinders by grinding 2 ounces of coffee beans in each and brewing 40-ounce pots of coffee using automatic drip coffee makers. Editors recommend five grinders, including the Braun KSM2, which they say grinds on the fine side while leaving a few chunks of unground beans.
