1. CoffeeGeek.com	Consumer Reviews: Grinders Contributors to CoffeeGeek.com As of May 2008		This site makes it easy to find owner-written grinder reviews. The number of ratings and overall scores are clearly displayed. Members judge the quality of each review, a feature we appreciate. Reviews tend to be long and detailed, and this site is an information bonanza for coffee buffs. Since contributors are enthusiasts, reviews center on expensive burr grinders. Highest overall ratings go to burr grinders like the Mazzer Mini, Pasquini Moka90 and LaCimbali Junior, which can cost upward of $400. The lowest scores go to the Capresso 551, a $50 budget burr grinder. The Capresso Infinity is said to be a good burr grinder for the price, but a few contributors complain about Capresso's customer service.
2. Whole Latte Love	Reviews -- Grinders Contributors to WholeLatteLove.com As of May 2008		Although reviews are useful, there aren't as many ratings here as at CoffeeGeek.com. The site provides usage and cleaning tips for many grinders. A comparison tool allows users to view overall ratings as well as number of reviews. Most grinders receive fewer than a dozen reviews, although some have garnered around 100. The Rancilio Rocky Doserless earns an average rating of 5.9 (out of 6) in about 40 reviews, while the Mazzer Mini earns an average score of 5.7 in about 20 ratings.

Cook’s Illustrated >> Details/Subscribe	Easing the Daily Grind Editors of Cook's Illustrated Nov. 2001		Cook's Illustrated tests ten under-$50 coffee grinders by grinding two ounces of coffee beans in each and brewing 40-ounce pots of coffee using automatic-drip machines. Editors recommend five models, including the Capresso Cool Grind, Krups Fast Touch Coffee Mill, Mr. Coffee IDS55, Braun Aromatic KSM 2B and Mr. Coffee Burr Mill BM3. The Proctor Silex E160B gets low marks for its small capacity, while the Starbucks Barista has such a small lid that grinds are apt to spill. The lowest ratings are for the Capresso 551 burr grinder. We'd like to see the magazine update its testing; most of the grinders in the article have been discontinued. This article does provide helpful advice for improving the body of the coffee by grinding beans in a blade grinder longer than manufacturers recommend.
4. New York Daily News >> Details/Subscribe	Bean Machines Isabel Forgang Apr. 24, 2002		Isabel Forgang rates ten coffee grinders. In the end, she concludes, she would be happy to own any of the models tested. The KitchenAid BCG100 earns her highest rating for its powerful motor and large, dishwasher-safe grinder bowl. Forgang also likes the Hamilton Beach Custom Grind 80340, which has a sliding switch, well-marked lid and retractable cord. Both the Capresso Cool Grind Model 501/502 and Capresso Burr Grinder earn good ratings for their ease of use, versatility and compact size. This article does not discuss flaws in any model's performance or design, and this article is outdated, resulting in a lower rating in our chart.

Amazon.com	Coffee Grinders Contributors to Amazon.com As of May 2008		Amazon.com's search function is far from perfect: when you search for grinders, grinder accessories such as brushes and tampers appear amid the burr and blade grinders. It's impossible to separate burr grinders from blade models. Many models earn high ratings with just a handful of reviews. Most low-cost burr grinders get lower ratings, such as the Melitta MEBG8B and Cuisinart DBM8 Supreme. The KitchenAid Pro Line KPCG100 Burr Grinder and Breville BCG450XL Ikon Conical Burr Grinder earn much higher scores, but they're a lot more expensive. Another highly rated burr grinder is the Capresso Infinity 560.01, even though some cheaper Capresso grinders don't do as well. The Hamilton Beach 80355 blade grinder receives low marks from owners, who say that the unit jammed or stopped working entirely. Many blade grinders get good ratings, including the Krups GX4100 Fast Touch, Mr. Coffee IDS77 Electric Coffee Grinder and the Braun KSM2.
6. Epinions	Coffee Grinder Reviews Contributors to Epinions.com As of May 2008		Epinions makes it easy to see how many users wrote reviews of a given coffee grinder. Most models receive an average of 3 stars (out of a possible 5) in a handful of ratings. One exception is the Salton/Melitta MEBG8B, which receives an average of 2 stars (in about two dozen reviews). The Braun KMM30 burr grinder is good for the price. Among blade grinders, the Mr. Coffee IDS55/IDS57 and Krups 203-42 get decent reviews. Several owners say that the Krups GVX2-12 looks great but grinds unevenly.

Kiplinger Personal Finance >> Details/Subscribe	The Daily Grind Matt Popowsky July 2003		In this older article, Matt Popowsky interviews Willem Boot, a consultant to coffee roasters and a Cup of Excellence judge. Boot dismisses blade grinders out of hand, saying that their uneven chopping results in a "watery brew." Boot prefers the Capresso Burr grinder and suggests avoiding grinder/drip coffee maker combos, declaring them "too difficult to clean and maintain." Popowsky does not discuss Boot's testing methodology.
8. The Observer	Take 5… coffee grinders Editors of The Observer July 13, 2003		The British-based Observer provides brief reviews of five coffee grinders in this older article. The "simple and compact" Krups KM 75, with its large capacity and ease of cleaning, emerges as the favorite in its price category. Following closely on its heels is the Gaggia MM, a "professional and solid-looking machine" that "ground to perfection." The DeLonghi KG39 receives lower marks for its extraneous bells and whistles and messy operation. The Dualit EL60 is bulky, with underperforming blades. The tradeoff for the Bodum C-Mill's quiet operation is poor performance; its grounds are too coarse for espresso machines. Of the five machines tested, only two are available in the U.S.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution >> Details/Subscribe	Testing 1-2-3: Getting a Perfect Grind Sabine Morrow Jan. 8, 2005		Sabine Morrow interviews chef Scott Black of Atlanta's Village Eatery, who says he prefers the simple design of the KitchenAid BCG100 to other coffee grinders tested here. He gives high marks to the Hamilton Beach Custom Grind, which shuts off automatically when beans are ground, but he dislikes the machine's nonremovable bowl. Cleaning the noisy Mr. Coffee Burr Mill BMX3 is said to be a hassle. The author doesn't disclose how these machines were tested.

Consumer Reports >> Details/Subscribe	Coffee Grinders Editors of Consumer Reports Jan. 1991		Seventeen years ago, Consumer Reports tested 15 blade grinders, three mills with timers, and two mills with manual controls. Although testing methodology is excellent and well defined, this test is simply too old to be of use.
