Capresso CoffeeTeam S Review

(*est. $200)

This page is part of a larger ConsumerSearch report on Coffee Makers which includes more reviews, analysis and a summary of the top-rated models.

What the reviewers like:
The Capresso CoffeeTeam S uses a conical burr grinder, which coffee experts say is a better choice than the chopping blades employed by less expensive combo models like the Cuisinart Grind & Brew (*est. $100). Owners posting to Amazon.com and other sites say the convenience of an all-in-one unit and great flavor is worth the $200 price tag. Owners also rave about the durability of the Capresso CoffeeTeam S, along with ease of cleaning.

What the reviewers don't like:
Considering that you can buy a separate grinder and a decent coffee maker for a combined cost of under $100, the Capresso is definitely more expensive. Owners dislike the fact that the grinder determines the amount of coffee to brew, regardless of strength desired (though some owners remedy this by using less water). The predominant concern in reviews is coffee temperature, which some reviewers say isn't hot enough for their liking.

Capresso CoffeeTeam S review highlights

Reviews say the best coffee flavor comes from freshly ground whole beans, and the 10-cup Capresso has a built-in conical burr grinder to do just that. You can program how many cups you want brewed, along with the fineness of the grind. Although it's pricey, consumer opinion sites are full of comments from satisfied owners who compliment the Capresso's great flavor and solid build quality. A few say the coffee could be hotter, but overall, reviews say the Capresso CoffeeTeam S is better than the cheaper Cuisinart Grind & Brew (*est. $100), which uses a blade grinder instead of a better burr grinder.

Although the Capresso CoffeeTeam is included in a large coffee-maker comparison at Consumer Reports, editors test an older version rather than the latest Capresso CoffeeTeam S. We did find a large number of owner-written reviews for the Capresso coffee maker, which includes a burr grinder for grinding beans just before brewing. Many of these owner-reviewers aren't your average coffee drinkers -- many are coffee and espresso connoisseurs.

There are a few dozen reviews for the Capresso CoffeeTeam coffee maker at Amazon.com, and it gets a very high average rating of 4.5 (on a five-point scale). The only consistent concern is that coffee isn't as hot as it could be. Several owners have measured the temperature at about 165 degrees, while Capresso says it should be more like 180 degrees. Even so, owners are very happy with this model’s ease of use and ease of cleaning, as well as the flavor of the coffee.

Most of the dozen or so owners posting reviews really like the CoffeeTeam, saying it has lots of options and is quiet for a grind-and-brew coffee maker. Most say the coffee tastes great. Several comment that the coffee isn't strong enough for them, so they set the grinder to make 10-cups-worth of beans, adding only six or eights cups of water. However, other owners aren't satisfied with this solution and say they wish you could adjust the amount of beans ground for each cup.
