Cuisinart Pro Custom 11 DLC-8S review highlights

Reviews say that Cuisinart and KitchenAid make the best food processors on the market. Testers prefer this model, the 11-cup Cuisinart DLC-8S, to its newer, more expensive sibling, the DLC-2011 (*est. $200), although the latter does a better job with bread dough. The DLC-8S is a champ at slicing, cutting fat into flour for pie dough, and grating, according to reviews. However, owner reviews are more mixed. Overall, we found better reviews for the KitchenAid KFP750 (*est. $160), with a 12-cup capacity.

We found two expert reviews -- at Consumer Reports and Cook's Illustrated -- of the Cuisinart Pro Custom 11 DLC-8S food processor, which is said to have changed little since its debut in 1973. This model also has several reviews at Amazon.com and Epinions; most reviews are favorable, but some owners say that Cuisinart's quality has declined in recent years.

Testers put eight food processors through a battery of tests, including grinding, chopping, puréeing and combining ingredients into various types of dough. The Cuisinart Pro Custom 11 DLC-8S is the runner-up to the KitchenAid 670. The Cuisinart food processor excelled at grating, slicing and combining ingredients for pie dough. Testers don't like the chute, however, which has changed little since the Cuisinart was introduced in 1973.
