1. Consumer Reports >> Details/Subscribe	Buyer's guide to freezers Editors of Consumer Reports June 2007		This article features ratings of individual freezers along with a buyer's guide. Altogether, 15 chest and upright models are rated, and three recommendations are made. Information about the types of freezers and how to choose the one that's right for your situation is provided, but there's almost no discussion about most of the models. A few of the rated freezers are discontinued, but Consumer Reports states that similar ones are available. However, despite these drawbacks, Consumer Reports is currently the best source we found for professional reviews of freezers.

2. GardenWeb.com	Appliance Forum Contributors to GardenWeb.com As of May 2008		This appliance forum is part of the sprawling GardenWeb community of discussion forums. While there are several discussions about freezers, you'll need to search to find them, as they are located here and in numerous other forums. One particularly enlightening thread reveals that several owners who started out with chest models ended up selling them and going with an upright, which may be less energy efficient but are said to be easier to clean and organize.
3. ENERGYSTAR.gov	ENERGY STAR Qualified Refrigerators and Freezers Editors of EnergyStar.com As of Apr. 15, 2008		This site offers a great deal of information on how to save energy and money when buying products for the home. There are frequent updates of the energy efficiency of appliances, including freezers. If you have particular models in mind to buy you can check out the easy-to-use charts listing brand, model number and energy usage. However, the site does not recommend or rate any particular freezer models.
4. American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy	Top Rated Energy-Efficient Appliances Editors of ACEEE Aug. 2007		Every few years, this organization offers a buyer's guide with tips on buying a new refrigerator or freezer. A new 9th edition was published in the fall of 2007. The book version, called Consumer Guide to Home Energy Savings, is available direct from the ACEEE or on Amazon.com. A greatly condensed online version is available on the website. Side-by-side refrigerator/freezers use more energy than models that have the freezer on top. To minimize energy consumption, freezers should be kept between 0°F and 5°F. Links take you to the ENERGY STAR chart of refrigerators and freezers.

Buzzillions	Freezer Reviews Contributors to Buzzillions.com As of May 2008		Buzzillions.com is a consumer review portal that accumulates user reviews from several smaller Internet retailers, including ABT, Compact Appliance, Absolute Home and others. Overall, there are a larger number of reviews here than at Amazon.com or Epinions. In addition, most reviews are brief and, like all consumer sites, the usefulness of the information shared varies greatly.
6. Amazon.com	Freezer Reviews Contributors to Amazon.com As of May 2008		Amazon.com is a large Internet retailer that allows users to post opinions about products they own. Only a handful of freezers get any reviews, and most of those are brief and from just one owner. The Sanyo HF-5015 Upright Freezer gets the most reviews and one of the highest ratings. But Amazon.com is still a good place to visit to gain some insight on how happy users are with their freezer once they get it home.
7. Epinions	Freezers Contributors to Epinions As of May 2008		We appreciate consumer-voting sites like Epinions, especially when contributors find problems with products that professional reviewers might miss. However, since average consumers are unlikely to have experience with more than one model, comparative data is lacking. Unfortunately, few freezers rated here get more than one review, so it is impossible to draw many conclusions about individual models. On the positive side, some of the reviews here are longer and more detailed than on most other consumer review sites.
8. Sears.com	Freezers Contributors to Sears.com As of May 2008		This website lets Sears customers comment on freezers they own. One advantage is that several freezers get substantial feedback and this site is really the only place to find user reviews on Kenmore freezers, which aren't sold elsewhere. Two Whirlpool upright freezers also get reviews.
9. HomeDepot.com	Freezers Contributors to Home Depot As of May 2008		Home Depot is a retailer that allows its customers to post reviews about the products purchased at their store. Though many freezers are listed, most of the models only receive one or two reviews, if that. Additionally, most reviews are very favorable, which makes it very difficult to see which freezer is actually best. Still, this is one of the few sites we found that did offer reviews, so it is worth checking out.
10. Appliance.com	Freezers Editors of Appliance.com As of May 2008		Appliance.com offers a buyer's guide that does a good job of telling consumers what specific freezer features to look for. The site also describes the newest models, but the editors neither compare these freezers nor offer an independent assessment; instead, they quote manufacturers' representatives. Still, if you're interested in what's new and upcoming, Appliance.com is an interesting site.
11. Which.co.uk >> Details/Subscribe	Freezers Editors of Which.co.uk Mar. 31, 2008		Which? magazine is the UK equivalent of Consumer Reports. In this recent study, editors put 50 freezers from a wide variety of brands to rigorous testing. The models tested are not available in the U.S., although similar freezers might be found from such brands as Hotpoint, Bosch and Frigidaire. Experts say that all of the models did a good job at keeping food frozen; however, the design and arrangement of door bins, shelves and drawers can make a huge difference in convenience. Also, manufacturer's claims about storage space are often exaggerated because they don't seem to take shelves or drawers into consideration.
12. Cook’s Illustrated >> Details/Subscribe	Getting to Know Your Freezer Sean Lawler Mar. 2005		No individual freezers are rated in this article. Instead, editors offer tips on making the most of your freezer. Valuable insight is provided on organization, packaging, defrosting, and unusual items to store in the freezer. While no models are tested or receive ratings, this article is interesting for its general advice.
13. Choice.com.au	Fact Sheet: Freezers Editors of Choice.com.au Nov. 2007		This Australian magazine is similar to Consumer Reports. This brief article compares the pros and cons of upright freezers and chest freezers. The bottom line is that uprights are best for those who don't have a lot of floor space, but chest freezers perform better and are cheaper than uprights.

14. Consumer Guide.com	Chest Freezers and Upright Freezers Editors of ConsumerGuide.com As of May 2008		Consumer Guide's recommendations seem based on specifications and perhaps a quick once-over, as we can see no sign of actual testing. Five freezers are rated Best Buys, including the Kenmore 16959 chest freezer and the Whirlpool EV209NBTQ upright. Unfortunately, the majority of the reviewed freezers are now discontinued, though similar models might be available in some cases. The site also offers a short buying guide.
