Green Star GS-3000 Review

(*est. $440) Compare Prices

This page is part of a larger ConsumerSearch report on Juicers which includes more reviews, analysis and a summary of the top-rated models.

What the Reviewers Like:
The Green Star 3000 lets you juice continuously without stopping to unclog the filter, and the twin-gear juicing process doesn't generate excessive heat, which nutritionists say can destroy nutrients. Owners say that the 3000's build quality is rock solid.

What The Reviewers Don't Like:
Soft produce, such as tomatoes and strawberries, can cause the Green Star 3000 to clog. Its parts are not dishwasher-safe. At 23 pounds, the 3000 is heavy. Owners say that this juicer is best for daily use; many consider they consider it too bulky and expensive for occasional use.

Green Star GS-3000 review highlights

Reviews agree that the Green Star GS-3000 juices more slowly than other juicers, but quieter operation and more juice offset this. Some force is required to push fruit and vegetables through the Green Star's twin gears, and if you want to juice fruits primarily, you should avoid the 3000, which can clog on soft, watery fruits such as strawberries. However, reviews say it does a great job juicing leafy greens and wheatgrass. The Green Star's price isn't competitive, however. If you're primarily interested in juicing greens and other vegetables, reviews say that the heavy-duty Omega 8005 (*est. $250) is a better value.

Charles Passy of the Wall Street Journal provides the most credible expert review of the Green Star 3000 juicer we read. About a dozen owners posting to Amazon.com and Epinions have left helpful comments on the Green Star 3000's performance over time. Juicer retailers, including VitalityPlus.com and Buyjuicers.com, offer reviews based on their experience, but they don't describe their methodology or pit this juicer against others.

A Juiced-Up New Year
Charles Passy
Dec. 26, 2003

Author Charles Passy says that the Green Star's slowness is offset by its efficiency and quiet operation. "You'll need plenty of muscle" to push dense vegetables through the 3000, Passy writes. He comments that this model can also make pasta and breadstick dough.

Green Star 3000 Reviews

Five owners post comments here for the Green Star 3000. Nearly all are positive; the single negative review seems to have more to do with the online shopping experience than with the juicer itself. Owners say that the juice quality is excellent, but nearly all say that this model takes several minutes to clean, and one owner says that this juicer chokes on tomatoes.

The Best Juicer: Is There One?
John Kohler

Editors here recommend using the Green Star's fruit attachment and say that they've used it to juice pears, watermelon, and apples. They note, however, that if you want to juice mostly fruit, you should not purchase a Green Star juicer. Editors recommend the Green Star 3000 as a good "all-around juicer" because it can be used to make sorbet, nut butters, baby food, and mochi (soft Japanese-style rice-flour cakes).

4. Vitality Plus
The 2006 Vitality Plus Juice Extractor Test
Editors of Vitality Plus

Editors at this juice retailer juice 2 1/2 pounds of carrots and 2 pounds of spinach in the Green Star 3000 and deem it the "most efficient juicer tested." It tied with one other model for quietest operation. We took the site's recommendations with a grain of salt, as Green Star is one of the juicer brands sold here.

5. Happy Juicer
Juicers and Juice Extractors
Editors of HappyJuicer.com

This site offers an overview of many juicers, including the Green Star 3000. Although editors say that they've tested each juicer, they don't describe their methodology. Nevertheless, they deem the Green Star 3000 best in the "health benefits" category. Editors say that the 3000 produced the juice with the longest shelf life of all the machines tested.
