Waring Professional PJE401 Review

(*est. $200) Compare Prices

This page is part of a larger ConsumerSearch report on Juicers which includes more reviews, analysis and a summary of the top-rated models.

What the Reviewers Like:
The Waring Professional PJE401 is a powerful machine that doesn't leave much juice behind in the pulp, reviews say, and its stainless steel housing is practically impervious to stains.

What the Reviewers Don't Like:
Several owners warn that this juicer can become unbalanced if fruit and vegetables are fed through the chute too slowly. Some owners report problems juicing watery fruits, such as watermelon and grapes. This model doesn't eject pulp, so the filter needs to be emptied during longer juicing sessions.

Waring Professional PJE401 review highlights

Interestingly, reviews for the identical Acme Supreme juicer are better than the early owner reviews we found for the Waring Professional PJE401. While some owners say the PJE401 is a workhorse that rarely balks, many others say it has a tendency to choke on soft, wet fruits and that it can become unbalanced. Even owners who like this machine say that you must empty the filter every few minutes during extended juicing sessions -- owners also say this about the Acme model (neither ejects pulp), but add that this results in clearer juice and better extraction. We found better reviews overall for the Breville Juice Fountain Plus (*est. $150), which does eject pulp.

Although it has not been included in any professional reviews, the Waring PJE401 has accumulated about two dozen ratings at Amazon.com, with an average score overall. However, the Waring Professional PJE juicer is identical to the Acme Supreme Juicerator 5001 (Waring has acquired Acme's juicer business), so reviews for the Acme juicer also apply to the Waring Professional juicer.

Contributors to Amazon.com

At Amazon.com, the Waring PJE401 receives mixed scores in about two dozen owner-written reviews. While many owners praise this juicer's stainless-steel housing and sturdy construction, others warn that it's finicky, and the wrong combination of fruits and vegetables at the wrong speed can force it out of balance. Those who like this machine take the vibration in stride, considering it a necessary tradeoff for above-average juice yields.

Charles Passy
Dec. 26, 2003

The Waring Professional PBJ juicer is not specifically included in this test -- but reviewer Charles Passy does test the identical Acme Supreme Juicerator, rating it best overall. It's comparable to the pricey Green Star GS-3000 (*est. $450) in that it yields dry pulp, which means "more juicer for your money," writes Passy.
