1.  Consumer Reports Cooktops and wall ovens

Editors of Consumer Reports

July 2007
reviews rating In this roundup, Consumer Reports tests 20 wall ovens, most of which have a convection feature. Convection ovens save roasting time and produce better browning. This is the most thorough and comprehensive review we found for wall ovens. The models are tested for baking and broiling, as well as for capacity. Also included are a features overview and a discussion of the testing methodology, along with ratings and recommendations.

2.  Which.co.uk Built-in Ovens

Editors of Which.co.uk

Nov. 2007
reviews rating Which? magazine is the United Kingdom's equivalent to Consumer Reports. For this latest update, editors test 22 single and double ovens -- both gas and electric models -- for performance, convenience and cleaning. The two top-rated single ovens are the Miele H4250B, which is "flirting with perfection," and the AEG-Electrolux B8871-4. The Bosch HBN56M550B and Stove Genus are the two best double ovens. Electric ovens and stainless steel finishes are the most popular choices. However, no models reviewed here are available in the U.S. -- though this review is thorough, it isn't of much use to homeowners in the United States.
3.  J.D. Power & Associates 2007 Major Home Appliance Study: Cooktops/Ovens

Editors of J.D. Power and Associates

Oct. 2007
reviews rating Over 12,000 consumers participated in a survey about major home appliances. Brands (but not individual models) are rated in six categories: Style and feel, performance, price, features, ease of use and warranty. GE Appliances won in overall satisfaction, with Whirlpool and GE Profile following in the rankings. Although the ratings are interesting, there's no distinction between built-in ovens or cooktops, making this survey less helpful than it could be. The J.D. Power website is in transition, and this report can no longer be accessed.
4.  Consumer Reports Steam Ovens Disappoint

Editors of Consumer Reports

Aug. 2006
reviews rating The steam oven is a new kitchen appliance that claims to cook food more healthfully. Two steam ovens and one range with a steaming function are tested. None of the models produces food that is better looking, better tasting or healthier than food cooked in a conventional oven. The advice is to avoid steam ovens because of their high price -- over $1000-- and small capacity.
5.  Choice.com.au Ovens

Editors of Choice.com.au

Feb. 2007
reviews rating This Australian site tests ten ovens, cooking various pastries and meats, as well as measuring temperature, cooking operation and cleaning. While this is a thorough report with well-explained ratings, editors do not distinguish between wall or under-bench ovens, and they recommended models are not available in the United States.
6.  ThatHome Site.com Appliances Forum

Contributors to ThatHomeSite.com

As of Feb. 2008
reviews rating That Home Site is a pleasant place to spend a couple hours if you love home improvement and gadgets. The forums are full of comments and discussions on every sort of appliance, including wall ovens. Discussions here point out that speed cookers are too small to substitute for a regular oven, but several contributors recommend them in addition to a wall oven. Contributors also like convection ovens. A recent discussion compared the pros and cons of gas versus electric wall ovens. No comparative product testing or ratings are offered here.
7.  Sears.com Wall Ovens

Contributors to Sears.com

As of Jan. 2008
reviews rating Sears.com recently started allowing consumer reviews of the products it sells. Most of the reviews are very brief, sometimes just a couple sentences. There are also very few reviews for particular models. However, this is one of the few websites where you can find user reviews for Kenmore wall ovens, so Sears.com is a good place to check.

8.  Newsweek Design: The Oven Of Your Dreams

Anna Kuchment

Nov. 8, 2004
reviews rating This entertaining article compares four ovens by roasting a turkey in each. Included in the test are the GE Profile Trivection wall oven, the Viking convection range and the ultra high-end, hand-crafted La Cornue stove. An apartment-sized La Cornue range with a 1.9-cubic-foot oven will set you back $20,500. These ranges are hand-assembled in France -- and the price doesn't include shipping. The "control" turkey is roasted in a 25-year-old Caloric oven. In the end, all four turkeys tasted equally good, with the major difference being roasting time. While entertaining, this article is now outdated.
9.  AJMadison.com Wall Ovens

Contributors to AJ Madison.com

As of Feb. 2008
reviews rating AJ Madison.com allows customers to review models on their site. On the downside, the site does not allow you to sort products by those that are best rated or to access reviews in any way except by clicking on the product page first. The number of reviews is also very limited, the length of reviews is short, and there are many models with no reviews at all. The Frigidaire FGB24L2A (*est. $580) received 4.5 out of 5 stars with customers, but a couple noted that it’s too small to hold a standard cookie sheet.
10.  Consumer Guide.com Electric Ovens

Editors of ConsumerGuide.com

As of Feb. 2008
reviews rating We don't have a good feel for how Consumer Guide makes its picks, and the short write-ups are merely product descriptions containing no critical analysis. Of the 26 wall ovens reviewed, 23 are rated "Best Buys," but there seems to be no criteria for choosing these models over others.
11.  Appliance.com Ranges and Cooking Appliances

Editors of Appliance.com

As of Feb. 2008
reviews rating Appliance.com does a good job of telling consumers what specific wall oven features to look for, and the site describes the newest models, but the editors neither compare these ovens nor offer independent product ratings. Still, if you're interested in what's new and upcoming, this site has all the buzz. One unique model is the TMIO Connect Intelligent Oven (*est. $2,500 for single oven, $4,000 for double), which can refrigerate food until you contact your oven from a cell phone or computer to start dinner.
12.  Choice.com.au Buying Guide – Ovens

Editors of Choice.com.au

Apr. 2005
reviews rating This is a short article on how to buy a wall oven. The pros and cons both of gas versus electric ovens and of built-in versus freestanding ovens are discussed. Types of ovens are also considered. Recommendations and ratings are made in a separate article that's available only to subscribers. This buyer's guide, however, is free and useful whether one is looking for an oven in Australia, the home base of this site, or in the United States.
13.  Epinions Ovens

Contributors to Epinions

As of Feb. 2008
reviews rating Epinions presents owner-written ratings, so the coverage here is somewhat random and based on anecdotal evidence. Though many ovens are listed, few receive any reviews from owners. A small percentage of models get one or two reviews. The Thermador C302U double oven gets ten reviews. Unfortunately, it also gets a very low average rating of 1.5 stars out of 5. The GE Profile JT955 gets ten owner written reviews and 2 stars. The GE ZSC2001FSS Advantium Electric Single Oven, a speed oven with microwave function, gets three reviews of 5 stars.
14.  Viewpoints.com Reviews of ovens

Contributors to Viewpoints

As of Feb. 2008
reviews rating This new site launched in April 2007 features user-submitted reviews on a wide range of products. The list of wall oven reviews is quite limited, with just three reviewed. It could be worth keeping an eye on as the site grows, but right now, there's not much here of use.
