Barefoot Yoga's Original Eco Yoga Mat earns several recommendations as one of the best eco-friendly yoga mats. Made from natural rubber and jute fiber, the Barefoot Yoga Original Eco Yoga Mat is available in two lengths -- 72 or 84 inches -- and weighs between 4.5 and 6 pounds, depending on the length. Reviewers love the textured fibers, which provide a non-slip surface for hot or vigorous yoga. They also appreciate the yoga mat's eco-friendly credibility. Users say the Barefoot Yoga Original Eco Yoga Mat doesn't bunch or slide during demanding poses, but some say the yoga mat sheds fibers easily. As with most eco-friendly yoga mats, we also saw complaints that the mat isn't very durable. While the Barefoot Yoga Original Eco Yoga Mat is highly rated, experts prefer the Jade Harmony Professional Yoga Mat (*Est. $65) overall.
The Barefoot Yoga Original Eco Yoga Mat is mentioned in a number of professional reviews, including comparative tests at Women's Adventure magazine and the Om Shanti yoga blog. Natural Health magazine and FitSugar.com have brief write-ups, but they don't provide many details on how the yoga mat performs. The New York Times also features the Barefoot Yoga mat in an older test from 2007.
