Our Analysis

Breaking it down

Features

Good for a few tasks. In keeping with its focus on small cleaning tasks, the Bissell SpotClean Pro 3624 includes a couple of handy accessories -- a 3-inch stain tool and a 6-inch stair tool. According to reviewers, they are identical except for size. The tools snap on and off easily. Bissell also includes a bottle of its highly-rated 2X Professional Deep Cleaning Formula (Est. $25 for 48 oz.). Other attachments are optionally available for SpotClean Pro 3624, including an assortment of brushes, some powered and some specifically for pet messes.

Performance

A good little cleaner. The Bissell SpotClean Pro 3624 gets rave reviews from people who want to be able to clean spills and stains without all the blotting and scrubbing that goes into using spray cleaners. Pet owners are particularly pleased, saying they feel like the SpotClean cleans pet messes more thoroughly, leaving the area more sanitary after cleaning -- although Bissell doesn't bill this portable carpet cleaner as a sanitizer. Quite a few users say they bought this portable carpet cleaner to tackle older stains and that it works well even for that. The SpotClean has pretty powerful suction for such a small unit, and we read just a few comments that it leaves the floor too wet. The Bissell SpotClean is a great choice for cleaning automobiles, area rugs and upholstery as well.

Ease of use

Very simple and straightforward. The clean and dirty water tanks on the Bissell SpotClean Pro 3624 are a single, but divided unit that detaches easily to fill and empty at the sink. Total capacity is three-quarters of a gallon, large enough for most jobs that this cleaner is targeted to. Quite a few owners say they love how easy it is to thoroughly empty and clean the dirty water unit, making it less likely for odors to linger. At 13.2 pounds, the Bissell is quite light, but a few still say that it's awkward or heavy to carry with one hand -- especially when filled with water -- and wish it had wheels. Some use the Bissell SpotClean for dealing with high traffic areas, but, unless you have a smaller home, that may be a tedious job with this little unit since you do have to kneel or stoop to use it. The cord is 22-feet long, a generous length for such a small carpet cleaner, and it stores onboard. The hose is 5 feet.

Durability

Very few durability issues. Although we saw a couple of complaints about various components of the Bissell SpotClean Pro 3624 breaking or failing, they were so few and far between that they aren't something that concern us. The SpotClean comes with a two-year warranty and Bissell customer service gets very high praise. The unhappiest customers seem to be those with the most unrealistic expectations; i.e. they thought the SpotClean would remove stains that had been around for a year or more, take care of very bad pet urine issues, or simply feel that this portable carpet cleaner is too small for all of the carpet in a home.
