Natural Baffle-channel Featherbed Review

By: Kelly Burgess on July 28, 2017

Bottom Line

The Baffle-channel Featherbed is a great choice for those who don't have any type of issue with feather allergies and love the idea of a soft, yet supportive feather mattress topper. It does need to be fluffed occasionally, but the baffling does a great job of preventing compression.

  • Comfortable, yet supportive
  • Doesn't retain body heat
  • Stays in place on mattress
  • True to size

  • Not hypoallergenic
  • No warranty, but good customer service
Our Analysis

Breaking it down

Cozy and warm. Reviewers love the feel of the Baffle-channel Featherbed, saying it's soft, yet feels supportive in spite of its down filling. Side sleepers are particular fans, saying that it has helped to relieve their shoulder and hip pain; fibromyalgia sufferers also appreciate its gentle support. Virtually all of the reviews we saw agree that the high-thread-count cotton cover does a good job of containing the feathers so they don't poke through. While most agree that the featherbed doesn't trap body heat the way a memory foam mattress topper can, some say it makes their mattress a bit warmer but not uncomfortably so.

Ease of use

True to size. This featherbed is fairly thick, about 3 or 4 inches, according to reviews, depending upon its size -- it comes in twin, full, queen, king and California king. And its size gets much praise for being a very good fit on a mattress without coming up a few inches short or hanging over. This makes it easier to find sheet to fit over the topper, although you'll probably need sheets with extra-deep pockets. Some just put the fitted sheet over the featherbed itself and leave the mattress uncovered. The topper does a good job of staying in place, and most users say it doesn't emit an unpleasant odor. Like other featherbeds, however, it must be dry cleaned.

Baffles do a good job. The baffles on the National Sleep Product Baffle-channel Featherbed are made of rows of stitching designed to keep the down filling from clumping. Owners say this works very well in general, but, as with any featherbed, the filling will compress somewhat with use and require occasional fluffing. Most report that they fluff the topper daily, although some find it needs to be done only once a week or so. Many say they do it when they do their weekly bed sheet changes. While this featherbed does not have an "official" warranty Overstock.com, the primary seller of National Sleep Product featherbeds, gets excellent reviews for customer service and those who contact the company's representatives for various issues typically come away satisfied.
