For the tech-centric crowd, a new smartphone release is often an exciting event. During 2023, there are several big brands preparing releases of new iterations of some of their most popular devices. As a result, anyone interested in getting a new phone in 2023 is wise to consider what’s on the horizon so they can choose the best smartphone for their needs. Here’s a look at the most anticipated phones of 2023.

Apple iPhone 15

Currently, there aren’t many confirmed details about the features and capabilities of the anticipated Apple iPhone 15. However, rumors are already circulating.

One of the most likely features is USB-C charging, as the European Union (EU) recently adopted a law requiring smartphones to have USB-C support. Whether USB-C will end up part of all new iPhones or just those sold in the EU isn’t clear.

The Dynamic Island – which appeared on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max – is expected to be part of all versions of the iPhone 15. Additionally, general hardware and camera improvements are likely part of the upcoming releases.

When it comes to the release date, Apple is reasonably predictable. As a result, most expect the iPhone 15 to launch in September 2023.

Google Pixel Fold

As with the iPhone 15, there isn’t much definitive information about the Google Pixel Fold, but rumors are widespread. While a folding phone isn’t a new concept in the U.S., as Samsung has offered foldable designs for several years now, many hope that the Google Pixel Fold will overcome some of the shortcomings identified in Samsung’s past foldable releases and potentially introduce capabilities to the U.S. market that aren’t currently available unless you’re outside of the country.

Some of the rumors include a competitive price point when compared to other folding devices, exterior screen face unlocking, and a potential release date near the end of spring or the start of summer in 2023 — that’s close to the Google I/O event.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5

As with the other phones on this list, there aren’t any formal announcements about what the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 will have in regards to features and capabilities, but rumors are already swirling. Some believe that Samsung is working to address the issues present in the previous iterations, such as display creasing.

Rumors also suggest a slimmer overall design. Plus, some think a built-in S-Pen is part of the plan, though others have stated that it isn’t likely. However, many feel the device will come available in mid to late summer.

Sony Xperia 1 V

There isn’t much confirmed information about the Sony Xperia 1 V, but the rumor mill is hard at work, particularly after a recent potential leak of unofficial renders. The design appears similar to the Sony Xperia 1 IV, featuring a tall form factor, vertical camera arrangement, and slightly squared edges.

However, many people have anticipated some significant hardware and performance upgrades, such as the use of a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 CPU. Enhanced camera capabilities are also a possibility. There isn’t a predicted release date for the Sony Xperia 1 V. Additionally, nothing is known about the potential selling price.
